Lawrence's Story

Hey! Thanks for stopping by, hope all is well with you. In High School you knew me as Larry. Today, all my friends call me Luke. After almost 35 years, you begin to wonder. What became of Dave? What is Nancy doing? Who was successful? Who got married? Kids? Who became Doctors? Lawyers? I don't often look back, but it is amusing to think about it. I now visit New England three or four times a year on business. As I grab dinner at an area restaurant I wonder; are any of my classmates are in the room? Is my waitress the son or daughter of someone I know? Would I recognize anyone? Would anyone know me? I was not much in high school, skinny, runt of the litter. I slept through more math than I stayed awake for. Probably all those carbs they fed us in the school lunches. We graduated before ADD was diagnosed or treated in children. If I had been diagnosed, I would have been the poster child. I went to classes with the brains and hung out with the burn outs. My hair length lived at my shoulders and I could have been a stunt double for a young John Lennon. I did not build any lasting friendships in high school. I have been too busy, too engaged, too self involved. Like high school, it was a missed opportunity for me. I didn't go to college straight out of high school. I watched most of friends that graduated in 79 flunk out in their first or second semester. I worked, played in bands that went nowhere. The drummer from one of these made it. You may remember The Pixies. David Lovering and I shared the stage at Jaspers before it burned down. After about 3 years of minimum wage and minimum effort, I went to school nights at Northeastern. Transferred to days at U-Lowell for Engineering. About 6 weeks later, I was given an oppo...Expand for more
rtunity to become an adult. Previously, I had passed on even the thought. Ready or not, it was time. 3 months later I was married, 9 months later, Steven was born. I continued at U-Lowell for a year. In mid 1984, I was fortunate to get a job at Analog Devices in Wilmington. I was able to finish my degree at Northeastern. They paid, I went. I continued as a workaholic through all of my first marriage and most of my second. I have been graced with 4 children, 2 boys, 2 girls. I am getting ahead of myself... My new wife and I lived in Methuen, then moved to Derry NH. I repaired the estranged relationship with my father. It took me another 15 years to stop working so hard to impress him. He had passed on by then. Therapy can be so revealing. (sarcasm) Oh yeah, the story... I was a good husband, from a guys point of view. But alas, my chosen one was in love with my best friend. Eric, my best friend, and I both joke about her now. He didn't believe me. Can't say I didn't warn him. We divorced after 5 years. I met my second wife at ADI. We dated for several years, married, moved to Atlanta, started a family, moved to North Carolina, continued the family, grew apart and divorced a few years ago. Success has found me a few times. I work as an applications engineer, I have travelled the world, walked on the Great Wall of China, summered in the Italian Riviera, met friends for a weekend in Japan. I have lived, loved, and learned many of the lessons that should have held my attention at WHS. If you ever looked at a SkyMall magazine and wondered; who would make a 7ft by 7ft crossword puzzle? You met the boy that grew to be the person that still has some growing up to do. All the time I have right now. Wishing you the Best Luke
