Lawrence's Story
Life
Lawrence Joy grew up in the Quad City area and attended Riverdale High School in Port Byron, IL, graduating in 1980. Known as Larry Joy growing up he was born and raised in the Chicago area living in Streamwood, IL, until moving west in 1972. West to the Mississippi River. Larry Joy performed in the Moline Boys Choir, was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church choir program in Davenport, Iowa, and enjoyed growing up on the Byron Hills Golf Course where he learned to play from both of his grandfathers. He left Illinois for college at Indiana State University where Larry performed with the Sycamore Singers and was elected President of the Residence Hall Association as a freshman. While at ISU his parents moved to New Mexico in late 1981 and Lawrence followed them to the Land of Enchantment one year later.
Lawrence Joy has lived and worked in Las Cruces for over 24 years. Lawrence moved to Las Cruces in January of 1983 to study Music and Business at New Mexico State University. people remember Lawrence Joy as the "Pizza Man" from his days as the owner of Pizza Man Express in the Solano Square Shopping Center in the late 80's. These days his claim to fame is being the "Voice of the PRIDE" announcing for the PRIDE Marching Band at NMSU Aggie Football games. Nancy Joy is a professional musician, a fifteen year member of the El Paso Symphony Orchestra and El Paso Opera, Principal Horn of the Las Cruces Symphony and is the Horn Professor at New Mexico State University.
Lawrence Joy is the owner of Advanced Target Marketing, Inc., a full service direct mail advertising agency since 1995 specializing in business to customer communication, as well as producing advertising and political campaigns. Lawrence Joy was an active member of the Republican Party of Dona Ana County for ten years and Ward 35 chairman 2000-2006. Lawrence ran for State Representative District 35 in 2004 and 2006 coming in second to the Democrat incumbent both times. As of March, 2007, Lawrence is actively pursuing the Joy of golf and invites all friends to come play in beautiful Las Cruces, New Mexico.
