Lawrence's Story
Life
My 4 years at EFA has blurred into a vague memory & IÂm sorry that I did not make the effort to join in and make lasting friends. Part of the problem was living in the country - SullivanÂs Monument - and having all the neighborhood kids as friends. They were younger or in other high schools. The biggest problem - I was shy & could not dance.
After EFA, I attended & graduated from CCC and worked with NY Tel until joining the Army in 1966.
I spent 11 months in Nha Trang, Vietnam (Nov 67 - Oct 68) with USASTRATCOM - 1st Signal Battalion. After my tour in Vietnam, I was stationed in NJ and met my current & only wife Patty.
November 6, 2011, we will celebrate our 40th anniversary. Our son John (born 12/6/73) was married 7/14/01 to Tracey Eberhardt. Jennifer (10/6/76) is a registered dietitian at Ft Bragg in NC. She left the army in April 2004 as a Captain and married Lewis Beeman.
Patty has had a lot to do with bringing we out of my shell. We have square danced since 1981 as active members...Expand for more
of the Middletown Ramblers (middletownramblers.org). I have taught their class 1987. We are avid sailers and I am outgoing commodore of 'The Sailing Club' (thesailingclub.org) and we have chartered sail boats in the BVI, Chesapeake and Lake Champlain.
In 1989, I attended the 25th year reunion with much trepidation. I could not remember a single friend I hung out with. I remembered people who were popular, played sports & stood out in other ways. I had a great time - the key was bringing my year book. I also attended the 30th reunion - memorable for taking up a collection to pay the band & get more beer.
On July 13, 2001 (the day before my son got married), I retired from Lucent Technologies and took the summer off. I started driving school bus that October and have enjoyed that job ever since. I now also train new drivers.
Our son John & his wife Tracey has blessed us with two Grandsons - Nate & Gabe.
Jennifer and Lewis are the proud parents of Isabella Grace Beeman, born on May 16, 2009.
