Cheryl's Story
I do animal welfare work on a volunteer basis. I rescue, handle adoptions and transport dogs and cats from kill shelters to animal rescues. I foster pregnant cats and orphaned kittens. Larry helps me big time with the litter pans.
I married Larry Voss June 1, 1985 and we are living happily ever after about a mile outside of Wilmington, Illinois on 5 acres.
My mom is also with us as I am her caretaker. Dad passed away July 3,1998. Mom turned 85 years old July 31, 2008. She has been with us for 6 years now and Larry is a saint for letting her stay with us. We also have 4 cats and an 11 year old Cockapoo that simply adores Larry.
I am also an avid bird watcher and passionate gardener. I love spring, summer and fall. Tending the gardens, especially, the roses, is a great past time for me. Larry is my weed collector.
He transports the weeds to the back of the pond where the White Tailed Deer come out of the woods in the summer. It is left wild along with the forest beyond.
Larry and I...Expand for more
love sitting on the deck out back and watching the Great Blue Herons, Great White Egrets, Canadian Geese, Mallard and other native ducks that visit the pond in the summer. I feed and watch song birds in migration also local species and chart my finds in a book that I keep.
We have visited the Bird Sanctuary in Plainfield, Illinois. We have also walked the trails in Midwin Nature Preserve in Will County,Illinois and fished at the Mazonia Fish and Wildlife Preserve just north of Gardner, Illinois.
Larry and I used to camp a lot but got too old for "ruffing it". We used a conversion van and a screened room. We also had a small igloo pup tent that we used as a potty room. My favorite camping trip was to Cave City, Kentucky where we took the 5 hour hike through Mammoth Cave.
At one campground in Kentucky Larry didn't tell me that there was a rat outside of the igloo potty until I got out. We never tore down camp, found another camp ground and set up so fast in our camping ventures.
