Layla's Story
I was born and raised in Southern California. I used to spend my vacations from school in Minnesota with my grandparents, which is where my dad is from. I moved to upstate NY when I was 13 for about 18 mos, I moved back to Southern California and lived there until I was 19 when I moved to Montana and lived there for approximately 6 years off and on. I also lived in Colorado for about 18 mos.
I am the only child of two Vietnam veterans (both US Army), both grandfathers were US Navy during different wars (a point of pride for me).
I have spent my life serving veterans of the different communities I have lived in by volunteering for nonprofit veterans organizations by working in a food bank, assisting in looking up names on a traveling sized Vietnam wall that came to my town as well as fundraising money to get it there, then was asked to speak by a cofounder of the Vietnam womenâs memo...Expand for more

I have helped raise money by volunteering in fundraisers to host a homeless veterans stand-down to shower, feed, clothe and help homeless veterans apply for benefits through various entities government and county. I spent 2 years helping to gather oral histories and historical document research and preservation of veterans back to WW1 for a historical narrative on the turn of the 21st century that was later given to the state of Montana historical museum. I also helped by editing all the paperwork and preparing presentations and speeches for grant writing for the local chapter of VVA(Vietnam Veterans of America) of state and regional level for grant writing and funding for a nonprofit veterans organization.
I also do not have children, but I have dogs and they are better behaved than most children and treated better too. So I guess I have become the crazy dog lady haha.
