Lea's Story
Life
I dropped out of happy Appy (Appalachian) pursuing a drummer in a band. After a couple of years I settled down in Chapel Hill, got married to a singer and had two kids. That didn't work out, (who would've known?!) and I've been single raising two daughters for the past 21 years. I have no regrets except for the fact that my kids have grown up having me to deal with, without someone to intervene.
I've been an employee of the State for 22 years, working at UNC-Chapel Hill, spending 10 years at ECU in G'ville, I finally moved back to Chapel Hill in 2000 and worked in Raleigh for State government until 2007. I returned to UNC in 2007 and have my dream job.
I am a MAILMAN (well, sorta of, kinda of)... I've been in the mailing industry for 22 years (my whole state career) and I now am the Director of University Mail Services and have my own department. I downsized from my State government job and unless something happens plan to retire from the State sometime in the next few years. I love what I do and have a broad network of colleagues nationwide, hold positions on regional and national associational boards, speak at industry conferences and in 2008 started my own consulting company called Professional L Inc (ProLinc).
My professional contacts allow me to travel to meet & visit with people nationwide just enough to be extremely exciting and interesting.
My first grandchild was born on July 2, 2002 and he is now six years old and attends Alexander Wilson!! My oldest daughter decided to expand the numbers with a set of twin girls in 2004 and another baby girl in 2008. They currently live with me so my tiny house on hwy 87 is bursting to the seams BUT I love each one of them.
It has been interesting since I moved back because I haven't really lived here since 1979. I have bumped into a couple of people 'round and about, and guess what?! they actually recognized me!! Most of the encounters have been at the gym as it seems there are a lot of us who are trying to get back into some type of shape. I have one thing to say - I HATE CRUNCHES!!
I'm glad that some of the people who knew me in HS have contacted me through email. It is great to get a reminder every now and then.
I wish for each and everyone who reads this email a healthy and happy life. Life is too short to take one day for granted and I thank the Lord each day for my life and salva...Expand for more
tion through Jesus Christ. Friends, once you know your salvation, peace is yours. We are all human, flesh, and apt to do or say things that are wrong daily. I count myself as human, but to know grace and forgiveness, is to forgive myself.
If you want please feel free to email me and I'll get back with you.

School
To all my former GHS friends:
I look back over my years in high school and wonder how we ever made it. Being in the band was the all out best thing that ever happened to me but it also had it's down side. I still talk to anyone who will listen about the stage band and how good we actually were. Who out there remembers when we went to Wake Forest University to a festival with Mr. Cline and played frisbee on the quad where no one was supposed to walk. (Of course we probably would have seen the Keep of the Grass signs if everyone hadn't been "floating"!) I'm proud to have been associated with that time on life at GHS and the unique group of individuals I grew up with.
The 1976 Men's State 3-A basketball Champions, the 1979 Women's State 3-A Basketball Champions and getting in the games free to play in the Pep band. Those were the good times...
and then there was the down side. Being an adult with children now I can't believe we were as bold about our drug use as we were. It is a miracle that we all didn't end up in jail with all the Pot we smoked and losing one of our friends in 12th grade affected me for life. I now talk to all teenagers I come in contact with to let them know that smoking dope makes you dumb and that there is a time and a place for everything and school ain't it.
My biggest regret is that I didn't take time to study harder so when I got to college I would have had some sound study habits. You can have all the brains in the world but if you don't have the dedication and self-control to study brains don't mean a thing.
Workplace
My greatest joy at work is solving a problem for an unhappy customer. Anyone who grew up with me knows I love to talk and I'm a people person, so that works real well with what I do. If you followed me around for a week you would find out that I am a psychologist, psychiatrist, mechanic, accountant, customer service representative, marriage counselor, mediator, mentor, computer programmer and most of all a trained professional postal manager.
