Leah's Story
I was born in Carbondale, Illinois. Moved to Steeleville, Il when I was 3, to Needles, California where I started Kindergarten at D Street School and stayed there for 1st Grade. For 2nd grade we moved back to Carrier Mills, Il until February then we moved to Whiteriver, AZ for the remainder of that year and my 3rd grade year. Then we moved on up to Lakeside, AZ for 4th and part of 5th grade and then we moved to Phoenix where I went to Kenilworth Elementary School for the rest of 5th grade. Next we moved to a suburb of Phoenix called Maryvale and Justine Spitalny School where I went to 6th grade in Mr. Sokol's class. All I can say is he made my life a living hell for one whole year as I didn't have much self esteem to start with. I started 7th grade at Spitalny in Mr. Boop's class and I loved him dearly, but we moved again in November. This time back to Vienna, IL just in time to be the new kid again and we were having to deal with the asassination of President Kennedy. For 8th grade and Freshman years, we moved to Casey, IL. in the same house. I married Eldon Roark, my high school sweetheart (we shared a locker our senior year). He's lived in Virden his whole life and within 1 block of our house since he was 8. We have one son, Troy who lives in Springfield, IL and he has a son, Connor (2004) and Madeline (2008).
In 2002 I retired from the State of Illinois after 29 years. Eldon is a Magician who works for agencies that book school assemblies. We are on the road a lot of the school year doing shows at schools and in the summer, we travel to libraries doing magic shows for summer reading programs. I'm the roady. Just behind the scenes, no self esteem, remember?
My father, James Farmer, was a music teacher and passed away on Dec 26, 1995 at home in Virden. My mother lives alone in Mesa, AZ in the winters and in Virden, IL in the summers.
I am currently a full time babysitter for my granddaughter and don't have much free time. When I do find some free time you can usually find me on the computer, taking photoshop classes or working on websites. If I could do anything over, I would have majored in glass blowing or graphic arts in college.
