Leana's Story
Graduate Oceana 1968. How wonderful was it to attend a school near the ocean during the changing times of the late 60's? I remember everyone as being friendly and kind . I Became a Buddhist my last year of high school. Moved to Berkeley. Married Mike Barger and had my daughter Sabrina in 1970. We worked, Mike went on to graduate school, we divorced and i started college in 1973 working my way through U.C. Berkley, graduating in 1976 with a degree in Political Science and a minor in Journalism. Went to graduate school at San Francisco State in their infamous Broadcast Communications Program. Worked in radio as an announcer/reporter. Developed a children's program for local Westinghouse station (KPIX), called 'City Kids' with my soon to be second husband Richard. Got hired by Bechtel to create a news program for their 30,000 employees worldwide to travel and highlight their many global projects, then worked as the west coast affiliate for a New York based media group. rom the hustle and started managing a bookstore where I developed a fun author lecture series on personal growth and spiritual development. Met a lot of luminaries in the field that i eventually worked with when i was approached by a publishing house to consult on manuscripts they were uncertain about. I was paid to read and then write up my opinion. Good lord who doesn't want to be paid for their opinion. Went back to school for training in Clinical Hypnosis and started a private practice in counseling along with team development/stress management for several corporate clients. Have been living in the East Bay area most of this time with a small 5 year jaunt to Portland, Oregon. We lost our son in an accident when he was 28. Will carry that wound forever. We are presently fairly happily retired spending most of my time in my art room making a mess and surrendering to non-cerebral processes. Right now the plan is to move to Tucson, Arizona to be near my daughter, where her career landed her. We should be there by the end of the summer. So, the adventure continues.
