Lee's Story

School I have great memories of Columbus High School...of Mr. Worley whose inspiration and erudition helped me get through the McMicken College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Cincinnati...of Clayton, Ron, Tim, Mike, Chris, Fred, Butch, John, Richard and so many others. I will always remember my lovely prom date Lydia Deruyter and the hours of phone calls, and the hundreds of messages we passed in the hallways. She was a princess that I didn't deserve and my behavior in my years of high school and college proved that. I wish her well and all my friends from CHS to be happy and healthy. As we look back it was an idyllic life in many ways - so innocent, so perfect. The fights, the ball games, the delinquency. It was the MidWest and it was lovely fun, and when I moved to New York City to be a flight attendant and I would go into a deli for a sandwich - jeez, I would have to wait until everyone was gone and then maybe I could make some eye contact and get my corned beef on rye. The MidWest wasn't aggressive! I, to this day say I am a Mid westerner with Eastern overtones because I came back to the East almost every summer I lived in Columbus or Cincinnati. I will never forget the friends I have from my younger days, the experiences we had - they are special and will go with me forever. And if I get lonely, feeling down, I just look back and think of all the friends, acquaitnances that I have shared time with......Expand for more
I just smile, and remember the good times I had growing up in Columbus, Indiana and the years of University life in Cincinnati, and think Mr. Murray, Leroy, Brillo Pad - you are one lucky guy. Thanks to all of you that were there to steer and guide me through this wonderful journey. I love you. College My brother Bob was a scholarship swimming athlete at the University of Cincinnati, and President of the Senior Class at UC and ivited me to visit him at UC when I was a senior in high school. It was a fun time as I remember and my eyes got a little bit wider thinking of the future. The greatest day of my life (no kidding) was when I made grades my freshman year and became a Lambda Chi fraternity member. I became the fraternity guy and after 3 terms as social chairman I became president and then president of the Intrafraternity Council. This was accpmplished with the help of many friends such as Frank Cagnetti and John Schneider. For a guy that hitchhiked to California with 5 F's his freshman year, this was the first "Comeback Kid". 1967-1972 were exhilarating, a little too much alchol and in the later years marijuania, but I grew and those around me grew and learned that we must move on. I loved my 4 1/2 years on campus and to tis day I am proud of the University of Cincinnati - it is one of the most dynamic, top-notch urban universities of this country. You have haven't heard the best of UC - it is still to come!!
