Left Huffman 10/73. Joined USN . Came back and got my GED 12/73. Spent first 10 yrs on east coast visiting many countries: Spain, Italy Sicily, Sardina, Greece, Turkey, and Romania. Spent many months in Carribean visiting Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Aruba, Cuba and the Virgin Islands. Most of the time homeported in Charleston, SC, and about 1 yr in Norfolk, VA. Received several skill codes including HVAC for everything from drinking fountain to 250 ton ac units. Submarine Repair, Surface Ship, and Secondary Nuclear Power Generation. Repaired both Steam Turbines, Boilers, and Diesel Engines. Next 8 yrs were on the west coast starting in Hawaii at Pearl Harbor. Made 3 Western Pacific cruises and Indian Ocean. Visited Japan, Phillipines, Hong Kong, Thailand,Lae Papua New Guinea, Diego Garcia, UAE, Bahrain, American Samoa, Western Samoa, Singapore,Tonga, Vava'u, Suribia and Bali Indonesia, Maritius, Funafuti, and several ports in Austrailia and Tasmania. While stationed at Pearl, I was aboard the USS Brewton (FF-1086) a frigate named after a SEAL killed in Viet Nam. It was the only ship named for a SEAL team member. His name was LT. John Brewton, from Brewton, AL. Left Pearl in 89 moved to San Diego, CA. Flew to Osaka, Japan and reported aboard my last ship. The ship had just begun its WESTPAC . We returned to San Diego and in 1991 we left for Operation Desert Shield. Enroute Desert Storm began. We were assigned to the amphibous assault forces. ...Expand for more
