Lena's Story

Life Living in Tulalip Washington, four grown kids. Returned to my native culture in 1989 to work and raise those kids. three of my kids now work at our casino in either supervisory or Executive positions. I now have eleven grandkids & just luv being a gramma. It's the best. I bought a new house last year and loving it. It is very romantic. I love going to Mariner, Sonics and Seahawks games even during their losing streaks. My daughter is the treasurer for our Canoe Family, a tribal cultural event held once a year with canoes from as far away as Japan. I assist on weekends when I can. She also dances while her husband and sons drum and sing native songs in our traditional language. I participate in community events, as my goal in life to ensure future generations are protected and enjoy the same opportunity we have. I also enjoy being a positive influence on our young ones. Lovin' my life College Graduated June 15, 2007 with an AA in Native American Studies - Tribal Governments and Law. Accepted to University of Washington Law & Justice Program...Expand for more
. Starting October 3, 2007. SOOOOO Excited. Amazing that we take school for granted when we are young and how much we actually learn later in life...I however, am a career student now that my kids are grown. I am now a UW graduate and working towards law school. Studying for LSAT, pretty tough but must endure. Workplace Currently the Tribal Gaming Director for the Tulalip Tribal Gaming Commission. We regulate gaming on Tribal Lands. I am a member of a few organizations such as the National Tribal Gaming Commissioners and Regulators where I am the Vice Chair and the Chair of the Training Committee and the Tulalip delegate and the Washington State TGA Director where I also sit on the training committee. In 2001 I attended the all Indian Inaugural Ball for the Bush administration. I travel regularly to all gaming and regulators conferences and/or consult or train on gaming regulation. I was selected for the National Indian Gaming Commissions Tribal Advisory Committee for Environmental, Public Health & Safety for proposed rule making. I love my job!!!!!
