Lenore's Story
Hi, all!
I'll first fill in my Prince Rupert friends --
I was born in Prince Rupert and lived there 'til 1964 when I moved with my family to Burnaby. While in Rupert I attended Seal Cove for grades 1 & 2, Conrad for 3, Seal Cove for 4, 5, & 6, Conrad again for 7 (just when grade 7 was kicked out of high school) and the grade 8 and 9 at BoMeHi.
Now, to Burnaby --
Moving to the 'Big City' was rather traumatic for me but I made some good friends and found my way about alright. Attended Edmonds for the rest of grade 9 and 10, then finished off at Burnaby Central.
I worked at the Coquitlam Social Welfare office as a Clerk Steno for a few years until I married. Raised a son, then a daughter (both with beautiful copper hair) with my husband for about 9 years, then on my own 'til they were grown. During that time I re-entered the work force at the City of Coquitlam Engineering Dept., starting as a Typist and soon becoming a Traffic Technician. I took odd courses at BCIT. I also became a widow and remarried during this time. (For my Prince Rupert friends, I married Wayne Slater who lived in Rupert 1948-1962 and in Terrace 1963-1968.) I worked for 20 years with the City then took an early retirement.
Wayne and I both retired and moved into the wilderness near Ucluelet, totally off the grid, no power, running water or flush toilets; with the bears and eagles. That lasted for 6 years and I do miss it. We've come out of the wilderness but still live on Vancouver Island. Time to enjoy the wilderness by RVing as we worked so hard to survive while living there we had little time to enjoy it.
I can't get enough of the beaches and ocean! I enjoy researching the family trees and meeting new relatives. We are trying very hard to make our modest home into a cozy nest and intend to motor around from beach to beach for the better part of each year. Fam...Expand for more
ily is BIG with me. My Mom lives on the mainland as does my daughter, her husband and my two year old grandson; my son and his wife live on the Island. I am lucky that my daughter likes lots of breaks because we get little grandson coming over for many visits!
I enjoy reading, knitting, crocheting, cooking; but, if I have my druthers I'd be doing them all at the seaside!

UPDATE:
Firstly, I can't believe I did not mention our fur family. At this point we have two sister cats about 13 years old who travel with us in the motorhome. I also have a Shihtzu mini poodle cross red haired, long legged and very devoted pup.
Since I Wrote the story above, my mother, Matilda Hudson, also known to many as Tany Owl, had a few health setbacks during which I stayed with her for long periods to help her adjust to new challenges and to heal. Sadly, she went on to join Dad on December Of 2012 at the age of 93. My daughter has also had a health challenge during which we cared for her then looked after my grandson for a while. I am pleased to say that all is going well there now. The last 14 months I have been fighting breast cancer and after 6 months of chemo and 38 radiation treatments and surgery things are just starting to be a bit more normal for me. I am now getting hormone therapy for the cancer which might last for ten years. I also am waiting for a plastic surgeon to put me together again. So not too much time to breathe.
I am intending to let this membership elapse (expires Dec or Jan I think) but will renew for short periods from time to time.
