Leon's Story
The first question got me,
"HOW WILL YOU CLASSMATES REMEMBER YOU?"
My first thought was, Do I really want to know? Yes I do and No I don't.
A lot can change in 37 years, especially people and I like to think I am one who has changed, for the better and looking back I am so glad I have.
My wife recently made a very powerful, but simple and profound statement.
"Seems like it's backwards,We have been given the wisdom in our older age we really needed in our younger years"
So to bring you up to date:
I left Hopewell in May of 1974, probably to keep from ending up dead or in prison. I moved back to Danville, Va where I was originally from .
On July 4th, 1983 I was involved in a motorcycle accident that left me burned over 33% of my body and spent the next 2 and 1/2 years, in and out of North Carolina Memorial Hospital at Chapel Hill, Burn Center for reconstructive surgery.
I never attended college so I took the course of working where I could.
After High School there was the Navy. Allied Chemical, Dan River Mills, Hardees's, back to Dan River Mills, and then to Burlington Industries.
In 1993 my life took a drastic 360 degree turn, I felt impressed to
enter the Ministry.
So to bring you up to date I am still in the Ministry, what a change.
I have been the Senior ...Expand for more
Pastor of 3 churches, and the Associate Pastor of a larger church.
I have served as a substitute school teacher and as school detention coordinator.
I have been involved in prison and hospital chaplaincy.
I have worked with disciplinary and problem children, youth and young people in all grades and age groups.
My wife Donna and I were married July 29th, 1975 and today celebrate our 34th anniversary.
We have 2 children:
Our daughter, Beth Anne, who is married To James Bell who is an attorney and assistant Commwealth Attorney. They have Two Children James who is 2 and 1/2 years, and Natalie who is 14 months.
Our son, Brenton, will be 19 in August and is in his second semester at Longwood University.
We currently live in Sandston, Va.[East Richmond} but are planning on moving before fall, just not sure where to.
My regrets are that I did not achieve my full potential in school and in life, but just about all of us have regrets.
I regret that I was not a better person in high school, thankful for the friends and opportunities I had, regretful for the friends and opportunities I missed.
GOD IS GOOD,
LIFE IS SHORT,
PEOPLE ARE PRECIOUS,
And
SECOND CHANCES ARE PRICELESS!
Thanks to everyone who has made this life a journey,
Thank you HHS "CLASS of 72"
