Leonard's Story
Well first of all, Hi to all my aquaintances from school on up to today. After graduation, I worked at Tonowanda Plating down near the tracks where the Fair Train parked. In January of 1971 I joined the Navy and went to Viet Nam on the aircraft carrier Ranger (CVA-61). I spent the next 20 years in the Navy and went all over the world. Oh, yeah, and in January of 1972 I married Debbie Sharron (Class of '71). We have been married 40 years. We have two daughters, Melanie (now 38) and Jennifer (now 36). We claim 9 grandchildren (although two passed away, one was adopted away and two are joining our family as sons of Jennifer's fiance). Cody and Chris are 20 and 18 from Jen's fiance. Clarice (19) and Timmy (10) are Melanie's kids. Katie Rose (17) and Chase Logan (10)(two weeks older than Timmy).
After the military we went to Florida to be with Deb's Mom until she passed away. While down there, I started college at Pasco Hernando Community College. We moved back to Western New York in January of 1994 and I attended Erie Community College (South). I graduated from ECC in May of 1996 with an Associates Degree in Media Communications. After a few knock around jobs, I started working for the Veterans of Foreign Wars as one of four service officrs in the state of New York in November of 1997. In October of 2000, I transfered to Providence Rhode Island as the lone state service officer. I stopped working there in February of 2004. I worked for the Department of Rh...Expand for more
ode Island Child, Youth and Family for just over a year. I lost my Mom from complications of Alzheimer's Disase in October of 2005 and my Dad passed of COPD in March of 2006. Between the death of my parents, my PTSD and the effects of 2 car accidents, I basically retired in April of 2006. But, in May of 2008 I was diagnosed with stage four cancer at the base of my tongue and the lymph nodes in the left side of my neck. I underwent chemo and radiation treatment for 8 weeks and in November of 2008, the Veterans Administration Hospital in Providence spent a few hours cleaning out the mess that was left behind by the treatments. Basically I am in remission from the cancer. The good news is that the VA declared the cancer to be related to my military service so all the treatment cost me nothing. On December 1 of 2008, Deb was found to have breast cancer. So we went through the whole treatment and operation stuff all over again. She has recently been declared to be cancer free also, so Deb and I are cancer survivors. We figure after 2008 and 2009 have been crappy years, that 2010 is going to be our big bounce back year. We moved back to western New York in March of 2011 and are very happy being back home. So "That's my story and I'm sticken to it." Hope this finds all of you well and happy. Since I wrote the above I am now the proud GREAT Grampa of 2 beautiful girls, Meridian born in 2013 and Olivia born in 2016. Living in North Boston now across from Charlaps.
