Leslie's Story
While in high school, I was inspired to become a journalist by my English teacher, May (Ma) Carpenter, and worked on the Centurion with some really cool classmates. Then it was on to Santa Monica College and I was a reporter for the Corsair and caused quite a stir when I wrote a story about the art class and its nude models. At Cal State Northridge (San Fernando Valley State College at the time), I became a reporter and news editor of the Daily Sundial and news director of the college radio stations. Following graduation, I became a reporter for the Glendale, CA News-Press. After nine months, I was drafted buit enlisted in the Army where I worked as a public information officer and reporter for...Expand for more
Stars and Stripes Europe. When I returned home in '68, I worked as a reporter for the L.A. Herald-Examiner for seven years before going into public relations. In 1985 I founded my own PR agency specializing in high tech. Retirement is not in the cards just yet, so I keep up with technology and help companies to get famous. I also write for magazines that cater to the senior crowd. I met my wife, Mary, during the Army (she was a WAC), and we had two boys -- one is a bachelor and other is married with our two granddaughters. I am currently three years cancer-free and enjoying life from our humble abode in Orange County. I wish all of my classmates nothing but good health and a good life.
