Before I remarried and was single I was considering a move to Mtn View. I went to look at the apartments that were built where old MVHS used to be. I told the rental agent I wanted the apartment "right there, on top of where the chemistry lab used to be so every time I flushed my toilet I'd be flushing on my most unfavorite place!" Nuff said.
The other moment that stands out is when my counselor Coach Collie Kidwell was counseling me on my aspirations after high school and advised me it would be a waste of my time to go to college that I should just settle down and be a housewife. UGH! He may have been a great football coach but had no concept of counseling high school girls (at least the ones who were not athletic!)
The other memorable moment was the day JFK was shot. I was leaving Mr. Allen's English class after having heard the announcement on the PA system. I was numb. Everyone was in shock. Girls gathered in the bathroom and sobbed (of course then EVERYONE had to redo their makeup!)
Workplace
Local union business representative who ran for the President position and won. From there I went to work for my International Union (United Food and Commercial Workers) as an organizer. Have traveled much for the job and that is what I miss most about being retired. I get itchy feet for the road.
I live in Dayton, Nevada, just southeast ...Expand for more
of Reno. Since retiring in 2000 I have been active with the Nevada State Democratic Party, served as chair of my County party twice. Am currently in the State Party Executive Board. Was elected a delegate to DNC for Bernie Sanders in 2020. Yeah, I am one of "those." And NO, I am NOT a Commie! I travel to Las Vegas often and to Cupertino to visit my daughter.
If I won $100 million, I'd give half of it to my daughter, then spend the rest on travel, travel and travel. 2014 and 2018: trips to Europe, 5 weeks each time. Doing research on my ancestors who came from Salzburg (then Germany, now Austria). Trips included Berlin, Paris, Salzburg, Prague (DON"T drink the cherry beer!), Krakow (LOVED it), Montpelier (FR). All by train. FABULOUS!
My best friend would tell you I'm kind, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as aloof.
I always wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a good idea. As it turns out, they were wise.
Read then sleep.
I admire Isadora Duncan for her ability to completely ignore what anyone else thought about her and to follow her passion, even if it turned out to appear not so good for her.
If I could improve my home, I'd remodel the bathroom and add on a swimming pool. My dream home would be energy efficient.
Patience, Patience, Patience!
Currently searching for the Truth before I die. (no immediate plans for that!)
