Leslie's Story

Life Not much to my bio. I have epilepsy, but I didn't get that till a doctor screwed up on me when I was one year old--didn't give me a vaccine I needed to accompany another shot, so I went into status epilepticus, which is basically a huge seizure in which I stopped breathing. Years later, I conquered seizures and wouldn't have had to deal with them again, had it not been for an arrogant pediatric neurologist who wanted me to stop taking my meds because she was convinced I didn't need them any longer. She convinced the more credible doctor I was seeing to convince me--so in grad school I had two huge seizures that broke the seizure-free barrier, and now my seizures are pretty frequent. I also have learning disabilities, which almost everyone thought was retardation for years. No one except my parents thought I'd graduate from high school. But they found a special school in the 5th grade that classified me as learning-disabled, and you just have to find those disabilities and work around them--like learning and remembering visually instead of in an auditory manner, and never totally believing what others believe. It's how I got as far as graduate school, and if I hadn't, I never would have met my husband. David's a wonderful man, and I wouldn't want to do without him. We've been married for almost 14 years now, no kids, but a pretty furry cat. She begs a lot, and ALWAYS wants a lap. I have to admit, though, as wonderful as David is, it's taken a long time to get over my lack of independence. I'm not permitted to drive since I can't control these seizures, and beca...Expand for more
use they cause other health problems, I also don't have a job. I love editing, though, so if I knew I could depend on my performance, I'd try to do that. Library work is almost nonexistent around here (Springfield, MO). I sleep a lot right now, I think mainly for neurological reasons. But when I don't, I also read. I love mystery/suspense novels, and some of my favorite authors include Jonathan Kellerman, Jayne Ann Krentz, Lilian Braun, Sue Grafton, Mary Higgins Clark, Patricia Cornwell, James Patterson, Stuart Woods, Lisa Scottoline, Robert B. Parker, J.A. Jance, Fern Michaels, Sandra Brown, Nancy Taylor Rosenberg, Tess Gerritsen. Jonathan Kellerman is best for psychological mystery, I think. His wife, Faye, also writes, but I've never read her stuff. Patricia Cornwell's lead character is a coroner or an M.E., I think. Lisa Scottoline's work is legal mystery, I believe. Much of James Patterson's work deals with a serial detective. I've read the others, but it's been so long, and my memory's so bad, that I can't really classify them. I can tell you that those book club handouts that get sent to you in the mail--I don't belong to a book club, and I don't intend to, but I keep the handout that's sent to me and take it to the library when I go, use it when I decide what to check out. Oh, and I date the handout when it comes so I know how recent it is. If you're still curious about me, or if you remember me, let me know. I remember Mark Strahm, as well as Paul Helling, and I've always wondered what happened to them, so if either of them read this, drop me a line. Leslie
