Lester's Story
I became a Marine in March of 1975, went to Parris Island boot camp, Trained on the west coast at Camp Pendleton, and than went to Okinawa for 13 months. Returned home to be assigned to Marine Barracks at the PNSY. From there I headed down south to North Carolina, 2nd Marine division. My next stop (for 2 years) was my dream assignment as a Marine Drill Instructor at Parris Island South Carolina. My last stop as a Marine landed me back at North Carolina, Camp Geiger the Infantry Training School for young Marines straight out of boot camp. During my two six year tours I visited many countries around the world and established friendships to last a life time. Twelve years of hard work and patients rewarded me with becoming a Gunnery Sargent, one of the most sort after promotions an enlisted Marine works for. er the course of 20 years there I worked at all four state prisons, during which I held many positions rising up through the ranks and retiring December 2006 as the Security Captain at the Northern Correctional Facility in Berlin, NH. Two years later I went back to serve as the Major Disciplinary Officer at the Concord Facility overseeing all major administrative proceedings for the inmates. During 2007 I became interested in property management and maintenance and worked in this field part time along with my prison work. During 2013 I went full time property management and maintenance and have been doing this ever since. As for my personal life, I have been married since 1978, my wife (Linda) and I have one Daughter who has given us four grandchildren, 15, 13, 11 and 18 months. We still live in Somersworth. I am looking forward to my next full time career choice called retirement in a few years.
