Lester's Story

Life I was recruited by the Union Pacific Railroad in December 2006 and moved to Omaha in January 2007 where I am enjoying work as Senior Manager - Intermodal Pricing for Streamline, Inc. - a wholly owned subsidiary of the UP. Prior to my relocation, I have lived and worked for the past two years in Addison, TX - which is just north of downtown Dallas. I have worked in the field of domestic and international freight transportation & logistics management since 1971 and worked has afforded me much opportunity for business travel and also to live in many of the country's most exciting cities. I would love to hear from you some time. Wishing you "all the best!" Les "We walk through life with those we love, but sometimes we must part, so for a while they pass from sight, but never from the heart." by Grace Childrey "Friends are the family you find along the way." School ARCADIA - K thru 12 - There are some positive memories and some painful ones. I thoroughly enjoyed the educational aspects of school but I was so very "different" in an environment that demanded "sameness" which made for a rough and rocky road on an interpersonal level. I've since learned that being different doesn't make me any worse or any better than any one else -- it just makes me different! I've also since learned that "diversity" is what makes the world go 'round and I am thankful that I am the unique individual that I am. Some of my RKD friendships have truly stood the test of time and I am blessed to still have some of my former classmates in my life. College OHIO NORTHERN - Great school and some great memories involving music and theatre. BLUFFTON COLLEGE (now Bluffton University) - Without question some of the best years of my life. Tremendous educational experience and equally tremendous interpersonal relationships. Great school; great faculty & staff; great educational environment. Many wonderful friends and memories forged here. Wish I hadn't had to divide my time between a full-time job and school - for all the wonderful things it was, it could have been so much more. BGSU - Studied vocal performance Univ. of PA - Studied vocal performance San Jose State - Studied Project Management Additional professional training in the Performing Arts including but not limited to voice, acting...Expand for more
, dance & choreography, composition and arranging spanning 30+ years. Additional professional training in Global Transportation and Logistics, Business Administration, Training and Documentation, End-User Systems design and Data Management spanning 20+ years. Workplace Union Carbide Corporation - summer job between high school and college ... ran a 30-inch hardpin core assembly machine and worked on a "classified" project for the Federal Goverment. Norfolk and Western Railway / Norfolk Southern - Fourteen years with a great company which took me all over the Midwest and then to Oregon and California. Consolidated Freightways - Two years with another outstanding company. Had it not been for the transfer to Fort Worth at that point in my life, I would have remained with CF. Matson - Two years with another outstanding company (does this sound familiar). Had it not been for being recalled by APL, I would have remained with Matson. APL - For fourteen years - without question - the most challenging, exciting and rewarding work I've ever done. SAIC - One brief forray into a new and very different aspect of transportation. In retrospect, I wish it had worked out better than it did. PACER GLOBAL LOGISTICS, INC. - One year and counting ... great potential as a company but has some serious hurdles to get over before its able to realize its full potential. Approached by Exel in June '05 to join their team ... DHL EXEL SUPPLY CHAIN - approaching 2 years ... talk about GREAT potential. Shortly after joining Exel, we were purchased by Deutsche Post. We are now the world's largest 3PL - a $70-80 billion company with 500,000 employees worldwide. I think we are the world's 5th or 6th largest employer with a commercial presence in every country of the world. Trememdous upside potential here ... and I work with a GREAT team of individuals in the Carrier and Capacity Management group responsible for procurement of ground-based transportation throughout North America - controlling an approximate $3 Billion transportation spend. Was promoted in Spring of '06 and am now Manager, Intermodal in our Business Process Improvement group and the company's Intermodal SME. Presently working on new TMS system design, development and implementation. Military I have no military service. I did register for the draft and was 1A but was never taken.
