Leticia's Story
Born in Makawao, Maui, third generation American of Visaya Filipino heritage, mom born in Lahaina, Maui, dad in International waters from PI(naturalized American). Grandparents immigrated from Negros Occidental, Phillipines to Haiku, Maui and created 17 siblings. Came to Honolulu at age 2, lived in Manoa, North Shore, Aiea, and Paoua Valley in Honolulu.
After graduating from Roosevelt High, I worked at City Bank of Honolulu(downtown) as bookkeeper, then moved to California, attended Woodbury College for a few semester, studied Fashion Design. Came back to Honolulu in 1966 and worked at YMCA, Nuuanu and met my husband(German-French,Norwegian, Scotch-Irish) on blind date(he was on Bomb Squad in US Navy), moved to Seattle in 1969, worked at Bon Marche Dept. We had a son in 1970(we now have 3 grandchildren-9,10,16).
We divorced in 1976 and I moved back to Hawaii, worked at Liberty House Dept Store, attended Medical Assisting Schcol studying Medical Assisting. In 1982, a friend from Roosevelt High sent for me to come to California where he was doing an Internship after getting his master in Psychology and I found a job I wanted at Cedars Sinai Medical Center where I worked for 9 years as Administrative Assistant in West Hollywood. On weekends, I attended Marymount Catholic College in San Pedro, California as a requirement for work in Dept of Pathology and Lab Med, Microbiology and succeeded in getting required credits to transfer to Seattle Pacific University matriculating my BS degree in General St...Expand for more
udies/Fine Art minor.
I moved to Seattle after Rodney King Riots and attended SPU, then worked as Sales Agent/Reservationist at SeaTac Airport, got pneumonia(yes, it was -20 in 1995-1997), and also lived in Portland working in Suicide crisis center, Chemical Dependency, Rehab as Assist to Mgr. Then moved to Las Vegas because of my walking pneumonia needed dry climate where I worked at MGM Grand Hotel & Casino. I lived there for 6 years.
Now I am in Seattle again... temperature not as cold(20 degreescold last year). I do love the snowy weather and summers here are mild temperature wise. My grandkids ski and snowboard.
I am planning to take my National test, Travel Agent Proficiency Test to get my travel agent certification and do a homebased agent work. There is a lot of world to see and now I have time to do this, although there is a lot of chaos. I pray for peace on earth for the world.
So, now after 50 years after graduating from Roosevelt, I am going to miss the Vegas High School Reunion because I have a travel internship coming up. Can u imagine that 50 years ago, the "Beatles" crashed the US? I was a great fan in high school days(my highschool crush)...besides hamburger, greasy french fries, and Coke, they were my favorites...and a consolation that I took the quarterback from another high school to the Junior Prom and our quarterback and his girlfriend, coincidentally sat in the back of me in Senior English Class and razzed me. Those were the Days...HighSchool Days. PEACE and LOVE
