Libby's Story
Since graduation I have lived quite a few places. I married Steve Smith ('69) about a year after graduation and we moved to Cheyenne, WY. We divorced after 3 years. In the meantime, I moved to Klamath Falls, OR and married Dave in 1977. We spent three years there where I worked in a civil service job doing clerical work. I also learned to snow ski, play tennis and racquetball while living there - hobbies I enjoyed for many years. We moved on to Marshfield, WI in 1979 and lived there for 11 years. After working in lower management for Figi's supervising other clerical workers I realized I needed to change course. I went back to college for my degree in Interior Design at the University of WI - Stevens Point and then worked in my field, very happy I had made the career correction. In 1984 we adopted our wonderful, smart, beautiful, daughter, Anna. A job change for Dave took us to Wales, WI (near Milwaukee) where I did a lot of, shall we say, emotional work, along with the rest of daily life. As a result, I changed my name to Libby. Pretty much only my Mother calls me Lynda any more. Anna began to ride and show American Saddlebreds and we had a horse to move when we went to New Ulm, MN in 1997. The horse went to Stillwater, MN, 2 hours from New ...Expand for more
Ulm thus Anna and I began our 5 year, two times a week, drive back and forth to Stillwater for lessons. I don't necessarily recommend the driving but it was great time to spend with a teenager. We wedged in trips to northern WI in the summer along with horse shows around the midwest. As a family, we really enjoyed what we were doing - horses, work, Anna, cabin - but whew, it was alot. Anna graduated, we moved, with a job change, to northern WI to our cabin/cottage in 2002. We renovated the cottage where we now live, which was right up my alley. Along the way I picked up lots of hobbies but the ones that have stuck are reading, antiques, water skiing, photography, quilting, and golf. I almost forgot to mention our dogs. Two miniature Shih-Tzus. One is a real dog and the other one, a rescue, is learning how to be a dog. I feel very lucky to be able to escape to Arizona to visit my sister, Jennifer ('72) in the winter when I can't stand winter one second longer. Having just returned from a month in AZ, I am now looking forward to a summer of golf, company at the lake, water time, and our 40th reunion! My work as an interior designer has taken a back seat to photography, etc., and these days I only do work for myself, Anna, friends, and relatives.
