Lilchy's Story
After graduation in 1964, I went to Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, VA where I majored in Home Economics Education. I graduated in 1968 and worked as a Home Economist for VEPCO in the Alexandria Office on Glebe Road. January 1969, I began my 33 year teaching career at West Springfield High School in Fairfax Co.. I also began working on my Master's degree. In August, 1971, I received a Master of Education in Counselor Education from UVA.. 4 days later, I left for Bamberg, Germany where I taught with The Department of Defense/Overseas Dependent Schools. I taught Home Ec, World Georography, Social Studies and Journalism ( thanks to Clyde Gray Simmons for teaching me for 2 years how to write). 2 years...Expand for more
later, I came home and taught Home Economics for the next 26 years in Manassas.. In 1985, I was incusted into Phi Delta Kappa, The Honorary Fraternity for Professional Educators. The Summer of 1992, I taught at an Oral English Workshop at Jianghan University in Wuxi, China. After I retired in 1999, I worked in the business world for 2 years and then went back to the classroom in 2001 and taught Home Ec part-time at Metz Middle School in Manassas for 3 more years. In 2004, I moved to Staunton, and live with my 2 cats Max & Annie. I work part-time at the Best Western Hotel as a Front Desk Clerk. I never married and was not able to have children. I am the reigning Ms Virginia Senior America 2019 & 2020.
