Lillian Padua, Chairperson of the Middletown Township Historic Preservation Commission, said that the MTHPC is working on a proposal to the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission for an official state historical marker at the former site of the Langhorne Speedway, which is near the intersections of Woodbourne Road and Lincoln Highway.Ms. Padua said that the HPC is seeking the support of the Board.She said that if the nomination is approved by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, half of the cost for the marker will be paid for by the State and they will assume the responsibility for maintaining the marker ...Expand for more

Ms. Padua said that an exact place has not been chosen, but it would either be along Woodbourne Road or along Lincoln Highway. She said that the utilities have to be consulted before a place could be chosen. Ms. Padua said that the HPC will be working with Mike Solomon, Township Acting Zoning Officer to help deal with PaDOT.

Ms. Padua said that the cost of the typical markers is $1,200 for a city type marker and for a roadside marker it would be $1,600.Ms. Padua said that the state pays approximately half of the cost and then would work with the Township to set a dedication date and arrange a dedication ceremony.
Mr. McMonagle asked Ms. Padua if any of the racing authorities who were involved with the Langhorne Speedway were contacted.

Ms. Padua said that they have not heard back from NASCAR, but a couple of the racecar drivers did indicate that they were not interested in attending the dedication ceremony.
The Board members stated that they would be in support of Ms. Padua's recommendation.
