Linda's Story
A lot can happen in 40 years. As I read other profiles, I realize that is true for everyone.
I joined the Army right after graduation (finance) and went to Heidelberg, Germany. I came back to Walter Reed AMC in Wash. DC, settled in Falls Church and left the Army in 1980. I met a German woman who shared an apartment with my sister and got married Jan. 81. I went back in the Army for another 10 years during which I went to Ft. Riley KS, Germany again, then back to Alexandria, VA. During my time in the Army I learned computer programming. So when I left in 1991, I went to work for MCI (later WorldCom yuck!) as a systems analyst. They moved us out to Colorado Springs in late 1992.
Once in Colorado, I decided to finish my degree which I started in the Army but switched from Computer Information Systems Management to Accounting. I got my MBA in Finance and Accounting in 1999. During our marriage we had two daughters, one who is a nurse and one who is a teacher. We were very active in our church and AWANA. Our marriage was great, but I realized a few years ago something was still not right and hadn't been since I was young.
I realized I was a woman along and that I used anti-social behavior (being mean/arrogant and chasing friends away) to hide myself from discovery by others. So I made the hard decision to risk everything and be true to my self. In 2013 I came out to family, friends and clients (98% stayed) and in 2014 when the divorce was final, changed my name and legal gender and have lived as Linda ever since.
In June 2014 I was hired by Dish Network as an accountant and I am still there. I became friends with a woman named Rachel and later fell in love. We were engaged in May 2015 and got married on April 23, 2016. Life has never been better for me and I have never been more at peace.
