Linda's Story

I imagine they will remember me as weird /-: Not sure that is what I hope, but it is what I assume. I always wanted to be a writer when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a good idea idea. As it turns out, they were half-right. I read books, write in my journal and play World of Warcraft or surf the web on my computer. The wildest thing I ever did in school? Well, I was the only hippie there in '67/69. That was, admittedly, pretty wild. My hero would be Socrates -- whether or not he lived or was a figment of Plato's imagination. I am inspired by good fiction, good poetry and my religion. Due to my husband's work, I have lived in Missouri, Texas, Arkansas, California, Central America and and Arizona, plus spent short times (3 weeks to 3 months) in other places like D.C. Philadelphia, etc. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Sue Ann Ellis, because we have an interesting past and besides, she was my good friend. I would also like to see Janet McGhan (1969 class) to apologize for being a jerk. It wasn't intentional, I was just really clueless. There were 2 big surprises in my life: that I ended up with a chronic illness, lupus, and am now legally disabled. The second is that after my wild youth -- I became a Christian. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel the patio and add on a jacuzzi. My dream home would be solar powered.(Late note: Now have the jacuzzi). From my older son, I've learned to stand firm like an oak. From my younger, I've learned to bend like a willow. There is no teacher from Wyandotte that I recall enough to want to see again. I would like to see my 6th grade teacher, Mr. Banks. He made me think it was okay to be smart and of an intellectual turn of mind. A place I'd like to be is on a beach spending time with my husband. My current age is 57. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be uninteresting. I was so completely wrong. My career: I was a nurse in pediatric oncology. Then I went back to school for a journalism degree but got pregnant. Then I home schooled m...Expand for more
y kids because we traveled a lot. Now, I am legally disabled. End of story. What happened to my first crush? I think he lives in southern California. I have no idea what he does or anything about his family. My best friend would tell you I'm funny, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as serious. I don't own any dresses. If I need to go to a wedding or funeral, I'll have to buy one. I wear shorts and sleeveless tops April-Oct. From Nov - March, I wear capris and short sleeved shirts. I try to stay fashionable without spending too much or looking too youngish (well, except I did get a nose ring, lol) My weirdest job was a weekly radio show where I talked about homeschooling. I share my home with my husband, which I find natural. Well, I, of course, had friends in grade school but they were mainly from the neighborhood. My first friend that was not from my neighborhood I met in Jr. High and knew at Wyandotte as well. Her name was Sue Ann Ellis. We met through another friend, Janet McGhan. I think we clicked because we were both quite willing to consider and try new things. The craziest thing I ever did? Sue Ann and I picked up and ran away from home. We went to Denver to live with hippies. Ages, not quite 15. Shudder when I think of it now. Every time I meet a 15 year old girl (I only had boys), I think how young they are and about what I did to my poor parents. What would surprise everyone at my high school reunion, besides the fact that I have gained weight? That I turned out so normal, I think. My first job was at a day care center, where I got paid $50/wk to care for kids. What I remember most about it is I did all the care and the owner did nothing. But I loved the kids. If I won $100 million, I'd give part of it to charity, including setting up some kind of ongoing foundation. Then I'd spend the rest on a secluded beach house and books, books, books. I don't know if I'd do anything differently if given the chance. For sure, I've done many things I regret but they have contributed to making me who I am.
