Linda's Story
Life
There were 10 of us kids in the family: Delores, Barbara, Donna, Jon, David, Preston, Debbie, Starlyt, James. I was in between David and Preston. The older ones went to Arlington High School. Starting with David the rest of us went to Sam Houston. When I left Sam Houston I moved to the Houston area (Deer Park). I had a houseful of children, 4 natural born, 3 adopted, and 8 foster kids. I now have 23 "legal" grandchildren and 8 "foster" grandchildren, 9 "foster" great grandchildren and 2 "legal" great grandchildren. We started our family early and adopted older children. So while many of our friends had children still in school ours were grown.
I got my college degree by going to school part time while raising a family. My career took off pretty good after that. I worked in the petrochemical industry as a Purchasing Manager. My husband and I transferred with...Expand for more
my company to PA in 1995 and back to TX in 2000 because I couldn't stand being away from TX any longer. I was hired by a company in Austin and spent 2.5 years there. Then we settled in Spanish Fort and started a boys' ranch. We were licensed as a Therapeutic Group Home and have space for 12 children. We enjoy our little ranch (91 acres) with the dogs, horses, and kids.
We had 6 foster boys up until a short time ago, but currently have 0, because of a health condition I have that prevents me from caring for any children at the present time and finding full time help locally has been very difficult.
January 31, 2006 was our 36th wedding anniversary. I won't say I have loved every minute of it, but it has certainly been an adventure.
We are now concentrating on the horses and my husband and son, Matt, are in the business of training horses for other people as well.
