Linda's Story
Life
I married my Vietnam Penpal and the true love of my life during my first semester of college, and moved away from Rialto forever. For several years we lived in the Trinity National Wilderness Area in No. Ca.,(80 miles from town--no electricity--deer, bear, mountain lions--hunting, fishing, scrub boards and country music) then settled in El Centro, where I became one of California's first female police ( patrol) officers. I spent 16 years in Law Enforcement there, attaining the rank of sergeant. Bill and I put ourselves through college and loved our 'life of crime'. (He was a federal agent.)
I had my only child, a daughter, after nearly 20 years of marriage. My husband was fortunate enough to get a transfer off the border to Cheyenne, Wyoming where we have lived since 1988. I left law enforcement then to be a stay-at-home mom, and have never regretted my decision. Somehow, I LIKE living in my psychedelic polyester batwing robe and fuzzy house shoes.

en a full-time freelance writer for 17 years. I'm currently at work on a book length project about the Civil War.
Bill retired from federal service three years ago and does all of my literary research for me. We have adjoining offices and dueling computers, and a teenage daughter who thinks her aging parents are just a little bit nuts!
Believe me, being a late-life mom keeps you young---and exhausted. My crow's feet have corns and my sag has turned to dangle---but I wouldn't change a second of my rollercoaster life.
School
Music was my abiding passion in high school, and remains a treasure in my life today. Mr. Hemstreet's classes were a joy---and so was he. In school, I dreamed of being a professional musician of some kind---teacher, singer, who knew??---but college quickly taught me that I wasn't good enough to be a pro, and wasn't dedicated enough to teach. While I was in high school I also considered a career as an interior designer---did I do those things? That would be NO....
