Linda's Story

While attending high school I took business courses to prepare for entering the workforce after graduation. Thanks to the teachers at Atholton I was well prepared for what would become my career choice. I graduated in 1971 and in December of that same year married the man I had dated for two and a half years prior to graduation. 1972 would be a very important year in my life - February landed a job in the insurance field with M. W. Griffith in Laurel, and during the summer of that same year I trusted in Jesus Christ as my Savior. Life was very sweet for many years as I juggled married life and a career; grew in my faith as a believer; and studied hard to become an insurance professional...a field I've worked in for 40+ years. In 1975 I gave birth to my first son. Raising him was such a breeze that when I got pregnant again in 1979 I thought I had this child rearing thing all figured out...NOT!!! It didn't take long to figure out that all people, including those you give birth to, are born with their own little personalities and will eventually have free will to make their own choices. Children may be raised exactly the same, but they are individuals from the moment they come out of the womb which is what makes life interesting and challenging at the same time. e nearby which is convenient since he has two of my grandchildren which I can visit at any time. My youngest, however, lives in Idaho which is a blessing and a curse. A blessing...because I have been given a reason and opportunity to travel across country several times. It's been during those excursions that I've realized I cannot live long enough to see all the beautiful sites there are to see in the US. A curse... because, unfortunately, I can only visit my other two grandchildren once a year. At this age, I've discovered that no one can escape this life without heartache! However, it's the trials and tribulations of life that God uses to make us into the people He can use for His glory. Divorce after 38 years of marriage, the passing of my mother; sister and other close family members; a prodigal son who disappeared for over two years without hearing a word (a mother's worst nightmare) is heartbreaking, but it was through these situations that I found God to be faithful! When He said I will never leave you nor forsake you, I found Him to be the One who carried me when I didn't know if I would survive. Now as a senior citizen (where did all those years go?), I thank God for my health, family, friends, my job (yes-even my job), and all the many blessings of life. I hope you can say the same.
