Linda's Story

Who am I, really? Good question! I'm the 16 year old girl who graduated in 1961 dreaming of going to college, becoming a teacher, and marrying Billy Ray Thomas, and I'm trapped in an old lady's body! I don't know how that happened! I did it all! I married Billy Ray and after 20 years we weren't even friends anymore. We had three kids, so I rapidly became a teacher. We were a Navy family and lived in Tennessee, New Mexico, Florida, Georgia and back to Florida--Key West. And after 28 years of off and on college classes, I finally obtained a degree, in business. Never got to be a school teacher, closest to it was Sunday School teacher! Everett Byrom, a wonderful man and my favorite dentist, swept me off my feet and the next thing I knew I was married again and "other mother" to four more kids. And now I'm surrounded with grandchildren, 14 of them and 3 great-grandchildren. Everyone of them is my very favorite grandchild! And then, I'm a quilter, one of my major passions in life. I love the fabrics, the colors, the way the fabric feels and the way you can cut it up in little pieces and make it into something beautiful. ...Expand for more
Sort of like God makes all the little pieces of our lives into something beautifull. And then, I'm a licensed real estate Broker and a Realtor. The greatest thing--well maybe one of the greatest things in the world is helping someone find their dream home. I've been a Realtor since 1999. I work mostly in Atascosa County (think Poteet, Strawberry Festival, etc.) but also in San Antonio. We live in a restored 1930's house in which my husband grew up. Its a wonderful old house with so much character! I wish it could talk! I just know it would have great stories to tell. Yes. I lived in a dorm when I was the grandmother of three! I had so much fun. My dorm mates thought I was one of them!! They always invited me out to the movies, to eat, to study...and they didn't expect me to pay for it. Everyone should go back to college and live in the dorm when they are in their forties. It gives you a new lease on life. There you have it, not very exciting I'm afraid. No great book written. No great discovery for mankind. But its been a great ride and I wouldn't trade it for the world. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.
