Linda Douglas:

CLASS OF 1965

Linda's Story

Honestly, as I start to write a bit about myself, I am not sure where to start. I have had a busy, happy, sad, crazy, fabulous life since Fenger HS. My life has been filled with family, really good friends, and some really big challenges. First of all, I just couldn't stop going to school. Not that I ever felt particularly studious at Fenger, but I got turned on to professional education and just kept going as my career in nursing moved forward. I finished a Master's degree from University of Illinois at the medical center in 1981 and started in nurse midwifery practice, a job I loved. While doing my thesis, I got turned on to research and so moved as soon as I could into a PhD program at U of I. That finished in 1995, I once again found myself in a post doc program at the University of Pennsylvania. I never ever dreamed that I would end up collecting degrees! ...Expand for more
Early on, I married Jim Paskiewicz and we had four terrific children. Jim died in 2004 from complications from cancer surgery. Sadly, he only had a chance to see our first grandchild, Annika. There are now four grandchildren, soon to be five when my daughter has her first baby this summer. My life had become a bit of a mess and so last year, I decided that I really needed a big change in my life. I left Loyola University Chicago to take on the Dean/director position for the Department of Nursing at Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame. I am now a resident Hoosier. South Bend is an interesting city but is no comparison to Chicago. I am enjoying the musical events that Notre Dame has to offer and found ways to get friends football tickets last fall. Funny how you get a few new friends during football season!! Life remains a bit complicated at times but it is all good.
