Linda's Story
Life
I have lived in Berkshire County(western Massachusetts) for 30 years. I co-own a restaurant in Lenox (summer home of the BSO, Tanglewood)...at this point, we are open six months of the year, only.
Last year, I got Medicare for my birthday, and this year, I get Social Security. Yikes...just yesterday, it ws 1974, and all we cared about was the next Dylan concert, Nixon and Agnew going down, a bottle and a song, the next ounce, etc. Now, it is all about, as Richard Ford puts it in THE LAY OF THE LAND: "the permanent period"...being an aging boomer: Medicare, shingles vaccine, etc. But...IT IS ALL OKAY.
I am an inveterate gym rat, raging dogaholic, passionate(albeit not pissy about it) oeonophile, third degree black belt in Aikido, AnthonyWeinerBernieSandersBarbaraBoxerDemocrat. I hope to use my first social security check to secure a couple bottles of Ernest Shackleton's whisky that was found in the ice back in the winter...one bottle to share with friends and one to keep forever. I try to live by the CHS motto(English translation): "TO STRIVE, TO SEEK, TO FIND, AND NOT TO YIELD." I also try not to split my infinitives or end sentences with prepositions.
In my head, one can never get too much exercise. Aikido has taught me much more than self defense, and, I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to train so much.
I have several heroes: Itzhak Rabin, Golda Meier, Barbara Boxer, Anthony Weiner, Bernie Sanders, John Lewis, Rosa Parks,Henry Waxman, and, I could go on, but, one would get the picture. My inspiration comes from those in Congress who try to do the right thing every day of their lives and from those like Rosa Parks who said, finally: "Enough."
My current age is almost 66. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be seriously infirm. I was so completely wrong..
I have not been happy clothing since the GAP stopped making those cotton gym shorts. I hate synthetic fabrics, and, I do not like someof the fashion today: I would love Villager and McMullen back, but NOT preppy...updated to be cool.
