Life
Hello graduates of 1968 from Brazosport High School in Freeport, TX and Live Oak High School in Watson, Louisiana. I went to Brazosport High School from 10th-12th grades and then 9 weeks before the end of school my mother moved back to Louisiana. I actually graduated from Live Oak High School May 28, 1968. I met my husband, Charles Allen Johnson, on June 30, 1968 and he asked me to marry him on July 4, 1968 and we actually got married on July 26, 1968. We celebrated our 36th anniversary this year. We have three children, Charle Allen Johnson, Jr. born December 7, 1969; Burl Wayne Johnson due December 11, 1970 but was actually born September 30, 1970; and Salena Eileen Johnson born September 23, 1973. We have 6 grandchildren. Blake Miles Johnson born January 31, 1995; Cheyenne Renee' Johnson born July 26, 1995 (on our anniversary); Danielle Alexa Van Dinther Steade born April 21, 1996; Blaine Michael Johnson born March 21, 1997; and Chandler Joseph Steade born September 10, 2000.
We lived on Harris-Cornor Rd in West Feliciana Parish for 22 years and moved to rural Wilkinson County on Herring Lane in September 1990 and have lived there ever since. We currently own 200 acres of prime deer hunting land in Wilkinson County, MS and 3 acres in two undivided tracts of land in West Feliciana Parish, Louisiana.
I completed training as a Licensed Practical Nurse in November 1975 and practiced LPN/LVN from 1975 until 1983. I returned to school June 1981 and graduated with honors from Alcorn State University in Natchez, MS May 13, 1983 and have since worked as a Registered Nurse. I am currently employed at the largest state Mental Health facility in Louisiana, Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System/East/Jackson. I have been employed here since 1987 and bought 3 years of time + brought prior service from other state facilities with me and anticipate retirement in February 2006 at which time I will get into what we call the DROP plan and work 3 more years. I will not work here after Feb 2009.
I loved to deer hunt until last year, when our good friend who hunted with us died of cancer....Expand for more
I have not hunted much since that time. I do love to travel around the county and plan to do plenty of this once I get retired. We have a 1999 travel trailer and a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado Extra Cab that I pull it with. We like to camp at state parks in Mississippi, but have been to Big Bend Country in Texas and the Carlsbad Caverns.
We had a black lab named Ed until 2003 when he died at the age of 11 and now have a mutt by the name of Benny, who just showed up on the door step.
College
Hello graduates from 1983 Associate Degree Nursing students from alcorn State University, Natchez campus. I attended Alcorn on an academic scholarship and graduated with honors May 13, 1983, Mother's Day on the main campus where it poured down rain. I enjoyed attending classes and have taken some classes towards my BS in Nursing, but did not complete all courses required. I am so near to retirement, I see no need to spend the extra money now.
Workplace
My first job was in Surfside, TX washing dishes in a restaurant on weekends making $21 a weekend.
My next job was in 1972, working as an aide in a state operated nursing home type facility.
My next job was in 1975 as a Licensed Practical Nurse working at East Louisiana State Hospital. I worked as an LPN from 1975 until 1983, when I graduated from Alcorn State University School of Nursing and then took RN Boards in July of 1983. I went back and forth from East to West Feliciana Parish Hospital while an LPN, but once I graduated with my RN degree, I didn't flop around. I worked as an RN at West Feliciana Parish Hospital, a small town hospital in St. Francisville, LA so I could work out my scholarship which the hospital auxiliary there gave me.
I began working at East Louisiana State Hospital June 15, 1987. The name of the facility has been changed since 2000 to Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System and includes three hospitals; Greenwell Springs Hospital, Eastern Division, And Forensice Division.
I bought three years service in 2004 and plan to retire with 25 years service at age 55 on February 15, 2006. After that, I plan to travel.
