Linda's Story
I was co-chair for our 2011 40th class reunion August 5, 6 & 7, 2011. Check out the photos of the reunion in my photo albums. Hope you can come to the next one in 2016. Our next one is at Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport on August 26.
We had a huge class and it seemed that survival was based on cliques and delineations for survival. I did have a couple of groups of friends that I "floated" in and out of and realize there were some really good people there, students and teachers, who had a positive influence on me. I was involved in art club and the theater department. During my junior year I developed some friends outside of high school as well as working and I became less involved in the school social climate.
I went on to college, first at the University of Iowa, then transferring to St. Ambrose. I earned a BA in Art Education and later earned a Masters. I've worked in graphic arts and museum settings before entering teaching. I spent 17 years teaching elementary art and middle school ever since. I took early retirement jan. 15, 2010 to pursue other venues and interests. That's a total of 32 years of teaching but I still teach at the university level. ng, it seems to combine the joys of kids and art for a fulfilling career. I've taught children as young as 2 to senior citizens and found each group to hold their own special delights. I've continued, sporadically, to produce art. Hopefully I've "paid it forward" often.
I was married 26 years before losing my husband to cancer in 2005. We had a beautiful son and daughter, both now adults. Neither have married yet. We also had an "unofficial adoption of the heart" of an entire Chinese family who immigrated to the US. We now have everyone here including parents, four children and 5 grandchildren. I was honored to be included in the birth of one granddaughter on my birthday. Interestingly enough our families have three "birthday buddies".
I've enjoyed my life and am looking forward to reconnecting with the nice people from high school. I hope they've all had a good and productive life enriched with the love of others.
I've found some through the 30th and 35th reunion. Hopefully more of our class will make it to the next one. We've certainly enjoyed getting together at the last several. I hadn't attended since the 5 year. We had a great time at the 40th!
Thanks.
Linda
