Linda's Story
Life
Don't own guilt that doesn't belong to you.
School
High School was not my favorite place to be, of course, that should probably be chalked up to the fact I'm a free spirit and have little regard for anyone with authority. Mind you, I'm not someone who goes out of her way to break the law or argue with school administrators, but when I'm right, I'm right, period. I didn't learn a whole hell of a lot that I would use later in life when i was in high school, except how to write a damn good paper. Thankfully, that did get me through college. I should have taken Art classes, I'd have been happier and high school would have breezed by faster and easier.
I've been perusing old yearbooks lately, probably due to my involvement with the upcoming reunion (again) and I've noticed that people thought I was fun. I honestly don't remember a fraction of the fun we had in classes, but as I read some of the comments bits and pieces do come back to mind. I'm sure some of it had to be fun and it wasn't all bad. Hey, I graduated, that's a good thing. And, thankfully I didn't waste my life.
And speaking of thankfulness, I'm especially thankful to those people who have been instrumental in taking me down memory lane in order to get a firm grasp on the reality that was high school, and not...Expand for more
my jaded perception that came from one or two bad occurances. You people ROCK!
College
I attended DBCC from 1998 - 2001 and from there I went on to
UCF (U Can't Finish) but lo and behold I FINISHED!!! Yes folks, it is possible to graduate from the University of Central Florida (a.k.a. U Can't Finish), and me with two degrees, no less, in 2004. WOO HOO!
Workplace
After having spent too many years in retail managment then raising my kids then going back to school for degrees in what I should have gone to school for so many years ago... I ha landed a job in a field I love dearly. I worked with persons with developmental disabilities as a Med-Waiver Support Coordinator. In laymans terms, I was a case manager for persons with disabilites. It's an interesting and rewarding job that of course pays less than most of your jobs but more than the salary I was receiving as a starving artist. Still, I am a working artist and I will always consider that my first love and ultimate career. *UPDATE* As of November 30, 2018 I am again a starving artist since retiring from Support Coordination. Now i'm packing up a house for a big move and hopefully it will sell in the near future. Meanwhile I patiently await the day I can move up to the temporary digs in MS and set up my studio again!!!
