Linda's Story

School biggest crush: Kenneth Murphy teacher: Mr. Humphries, Mr. McKee and several others do it over!: Hell Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! funniest, happiest, craziest school memories: Singing in the Canto Chorus for 2 yrs, 2nd period chorus and girls chorus, all the many friends I met and still stay in contact with, the sock hops in the gym last period. Senior year when we were finally able to be ourselves. Teachers that really cared and then came the reunions! Seeing all the old friends and faces that have hardly changed throughout the years. I would like my friends to remember me as a kind person, someone who loved life, never met a stranger and I hope that they liked me as a person. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Ken Murphy, because we were 1st in love in high school. I love my husband and we dated at Marley, and knew each other since we were 12, but we talk at times on the phone. . My kids are most important in my life with my grandsons being their gift to me. My son, Matthew has 1 son, Tucker, born Oct '04 and a stepson (who is actually in my heart my grandson), Wyatt, born Feb '98 and my daughter Amanda's son, Mason, born in May '10. I love to make cards, get on facebook, talk to a friend (usually my best friend who just happens to be my husband, Dell) or just going off by myself and taking some time to think it through. This is how I got through some of the rough times or when I am upset. My biggest influence in my life was my father, Art Leighty. He was my Superman ever since there was a Superman. We had our differences, but he was always there to kiss my boo-boo, wipe my tears when my heart got broken and there to help when I was sick. I could always count on him. He died too soon and I miss him everyday, but when something happens I can always hear him tell me it will be ok or some other words he would use to get me through it. I have lived in quite a few places. Dell went into the Army the year before we got married, so we have lived in Homestead, FL, El Paso, TX (twice), White Sands Missile Range, NM, and 2 tours of Germany. We were in Baumholder and Hanau. Our last duty station was Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL where Dell retired from the Army after just over 20 yrs and w...Expand for more
e had bought a house just down the road in Madison when we got here in '88. I still miss Glen Burnie though and where I was born, Red Bank, NJ. That at 38 yrs old I would start college and try to become a high school teacher! I subbed for many years in the high school here in AL and although I wasn't able to finish college I have many memories of my students and my classes. I have learned the most from kids that my parents really had a hard job. Not that I or my kids were bad kids, but it is probably the hardest and scariest job I could ever have. They also taught me that love in unconditional and that although we may disagree we will always be there for each other. There is not just one teacher I would love to see. Throughout my years in school there were many teachers who influenced me and gave me the support I needed to grow. Actually to be truly happy I would be right where I am, with my hubby, Dell, my kids and grandsons. Although everything is never perfect I could never be happy anywhere else except when we are all close and able to see each other on a regular basis. My best friend would tell you I'm very talkative, a good friend and listener, funny and usually smiling., but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as talkative, but friendly and loves to smile. Although I have no real trophies, I was given a plaque from the Sparkman HIgh School Army JROTC for helping them. I would sub in those classes, as my hubby had been Army and I was quite familiar with what was expected. Anyway, at the Army Ball JROTC of '97 the seniors gave me a plaque thanking me for helping them out and being their "Mom". I was totally surprised and cherish it always. My son was the one to escort me up to have it given to me and that made it all the more special. It was from all the kids, but given to me my by the seniors. To me that is a trophy and will always be special. That I had gone to college to be a teacher, especially a high school teacher! I think that would surprise them the most. Must add that on Oct 8 my son, Matthew remarried and his beautiful wife and mother to his son Tucker, now 13, and now they have a daughter who turned a yr old on Jan 7th, and her name is Ava Marie. Life is pretty good and I am enjoying my grandchildren very much.
