Linda's Story
Life
In August 1948 I was born in Baytown, Texas. At the age of 2 my family moved to Golden Acres, Texas, where I lived until we moved back to Baytown in 1960. I went to Horace Mann Jr. High from 1960 to 1963 and entered Robert E. Lee High School in the fall of 1963. All through Horace Mann and Robert E. Lee I was in the band. Music is still one of my loves!
Following high school graduation I entered Texas Woman's University in the School of Nursing. I met Kriag while living in Denton and going to university there. I fell in love and married at the ripe ole age of 19 to a Houstonian. Through the years I had 2 children, a daughter born in 1970 and a son born in 1974. I went to college and worked full time, while being a full time mom and wife and...well you know the routine. I worked at the Methodist Hospital for 5 years, then worked for some physicians in private practice for a year. In 1978 I began working at The University of Texas Houston Medical School and worked there until I retired at the end of August 2003. My years there were fun, exciting, and educational. My last 7 1/2 years there I was the executive assistant to one of our classmates, Richard Smalling. Small world - eh?
On a more personal note, my marriage of 30 years ended in divorce in 2001. At the urging of some friends, I began seeking pen pals via the internet. I have to admit that most of the responses to my internet search were not worth talking to, but I did meet and still correspond with several guys whom I "met" via the internet.
I met George in October 2001 via the internet, and thinking that he was a really safe pen pal (afterall, he lived an entire country away!)we began corresponding. And yes sometimes these things do work out! We met in person in November 2001. In May 2003 we got married; in September 2003 I moved to beautiful Vancouver Island, BC, where George has lived all his life. I adjusted to a lot of changes all at once - a new marriage, retirement after 25 years at the Univ of Texas-Houston, a new country, new units of measurement, new money, new government...but it is wonderful here! I love my new life.

, email, and the phone. I have discovered a happy, wonderful life that I never knew existed and I am very much looking forward to next 50 years of my life! I must have done at least one good thing in my life to have earned such a great reward.
My daughter (lives in Alvin, TX) gave birth to a healthy and very large son in February, 2006. My step daughter (lives in Montreal) gave birth to a healthy son in November 2005, and her second son in September 07. My son and his partner had a son in March 2008. All of a sudden George and I have 4 wonderful, happy and healthy grandsons that we have a great time spoiling every chance we get. My daughters partner has 2 children from a previous marriage and my son's partner has a son - so we have lots of step grandkids too!
I have finally gotten used to "south of the border" being the US, and I can quickly calculate Centigrade temps to Farenheit now!
School
I attended elementary in Golden Acres, Texas. I was very short for my age and the very first day of school in first grade the bus driver would not let me on the bus as he thought I was someone's little sister just trying to get on the bus....I had to wear a note pinned to my dress for the first week of that school year telling the bus driver to let me ride as I was a student at the elementary school.
Half way through 7th grade my family moved back to Baytown and I attended Horace Mann Jr High and then Robert E. Lee High School. I loved school and found that being in the band made some otherwise very difficult times bearable.
Workplace
After 25 years at The University of Texas-Houston Medical School I retired in August 2003. But, being retired does not mean I am not busy. In fact, it seems that now I am more busy than I was when I was working! I am on the board of directors of the Sooke Senior Drop-In Center, and am president of the Rabbits BC rabbit breeders club and am a member of the Vancouver Island Rabbits Breeders Association. George and I have a 5th wheel travel trailer and spend time touring around here on Vancouver Island and the mainland of British Columbia. We plan on seeing more of Canada and also venturing down into the States - of course that all depends on where the price of gas goes!
