Linda's Story

Life After graduating from South High, I attended Noni Modeling school and was asked to be in the Miss Columbus pageant, something I wasn't comfortable with but did it anyway. I went to work for the government and there I met my first husband, Jim. We moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan where I worked while he went for his Master's at the Univ.of Michigan. After he graduated, we moved back to Columbus where I attended OSU until we moved to Florida in 1970. My daughter Heather was born in 1970 in Ft. Lauderdale. I then attended and graduated from Florida Atlantic Univ. After graduation from college, I got a job at Sensormatic Electronics Corp. and later started my own company, Global Event Management, Inc. I am currently married to my second husband, Bruce, who I met while playing golf in 1979 at the company golf league. We both love to travel - one of our favorite places in the U.S. is Santa Fe, New Mexico and hope to have a second home there one day. We have also traveled outside the U.S. together, mainly to South America but our most wonderful trip ever was to Egypt, a place we had both always wanted to visit. My daughter Heather graduated from the Univ. of Florida was Senior Editor at Florida Design Magazine for 7 years; she currently works for a luxury magazine as a Writer with offices in Boca Raton & New York. She has two sons - Alexander & Cameron. My husband, Bruce and I lived in Boca Raton for many years and now live in a private, golf community in the city of Atlantis in Palm Beach County. Bruce is an avid golfer and also loves deep sea fishing. We are proud grandparents two boys, both part Vietnamese. The older boy is Alexander but we ...Expand for more
call him Lex, the younger boy is Cameron but we call him Cam. College I attended the Columbus College of Art & Design and also attended OSU and then moved to Florida where I graduated Florida Atlantic University with a B.A. Degree in Fine Art. I spent one year working toward and Master's in Art History. I often take online courses from Harvard, MIT and Berkeley, things that interest me like Astro Biology, Coding, and other courses that had nothing to do with my degree - always loving to learn even in retirement. Workplace I worked as Sr. Manager/Marketing Communications for Sensormatic Electronics Corp. I was in charge of corporate and marketing communications for the company which included corporate meetings, events, trade shows, graphics, video and a/v production. Part of my job, took me around the globe doing incentive meetings which was wonderful as I always loved to travel. After 20 years there, I resigned to start my own business, Global Event Management, Inc. in Boca Raton, Florida with my friend and business partner, Cindy Criscione. We closed the doors on our business in 2006. I was President of the Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Club in Palm Beach County/Delray Beach chapter. I also volunteered there and loved working with and helping children in need. I also volunteered at the Palm Beach County Library in the outreach program. Right now I volunteer with the Palm Beach County Food Bank as they need me. I like trying new things .... like a fun endeavor I did -- I took a professional cake decorating class at the Florida Culinary Institute - I love baking for myself and others. I also did some professional pie baking.
