Linda's Story

Life Greetings to all who visit my page in classmates. I have been busy over the years living in different states, trying different jobs, meeting tons of people, and have finally settled down, sort of, in eastern Tennessee. After I graduated from MRHS I attended Boston University, where I graduated with a B.S. in elementary education. I got to do my 6 months student teaching, but that was it. After applying to over 400 school districts I gave up. I lived in northern Massachusetts for a year, worked as a secretary, and decided it was time for a change. In 1975 I moved to San Francisco, ended up working as an air pollution inspector, cool job put the politics suck. While at the District I met my now ex, Mickey, who was a mechanic. We bought a house in Concord, Ca., but after 5 years I called it quits. Worked out well though because I met the love of my life, an actual for real soul mate. We spent 9 wonderful months together attached at the hip as, of all things, long haul truck drivers. Unfortunately he had a cerebral aneurysm burst and in 1982 they didn't have much life saving technology available, so he was taken off life support and passed on at the ripe old age of 36. It took me a full 12 months to heal, recoup and manage to get the strength to move on, so I went back to driving truck, by myself. After 7 years of part time work I decided to try getting off the road, and went ...Expand for more
to work for the California Highway Patrol inspecting trucks. I did that in Fremont and Chowchilla for 8 years until I couldn't stand the politics of THAT job, so, I left to go back on the road. That was in 1997, and I'm still out here. I am working for a small fleet owner here in Tennessee, bought a home that I rarely get to see, but still enjoy seeing the country. I had the opportunity to buy my own truck, but with the industry being so volatile I have decided to wait. I mostly run from Pa. to Calif., often stopping in Eatontown to see my family. My Mom passed on in May of this year (boy, I sure miss her!), but my Dad and brother (Steven) still live in the area. My sister (Marion) lives in New York so we get to have family get togethers often. At the moment I do not have a pet, but am looking for a ragdoll cat to ride in the truck with me. It is really great having "someone" waiting in the truck for me (I've had cats before), but it takes a special personality for the cat to be happy living in motion. Arizona is my favorite state to drive through, although most states have certain areas that are just breath taking. I have no plans on ever retiring because I cannot imagine sitting still. I consider myself to be a paid professional tourist, and I love it!! I must have been a reincarnated pony express rider or wagon master because this sure has turned out to be a great "career" for me.
