Linda's Story

Linda is from Palm Coast, Florida. Linda is married with Marc Bellapianta. Linda's schools include Belen High School. Linda later attended Daytona Beach Community College and the US Military Air Force Academy, Non commissioned officers school, Air National Guard Recruiting school, . Hi everyone. Here is my story... After graduating, my Father was transferred to Tulsa, Oklahoma. He asked me to go with him while my Mom stayed back to sell the house we had in Las Lunas. I had no intention of ever enlisting into the service however, my parents could not afford to send me to college, which made it hard for me to get a descent job. The worked at the local Pizza Hut and then the snack bar at the Wills Rogers Community College... All along not happy with the choices made. My father went on a temporary duty assignment for a couple of weeks and I decided to go and speak to an Air National Guard Recruiter (just to see what it was all about). Well to say the least I found my self in June 1979 boarding a C130 out of Tulsa with 20 other recruits all from Oklahoma which was called the 1st ever Okie Flight.. After graduating Basic training I attended Aero Medical School at Sheppard AFB. Graduating and returned to Tulsa to work as an Aero Medical technician was promoted to Airman First Class then decided I wanted a full time Federal Civil Service job..In order to apply for a full time (available) position I would have to change career fields. I decided to attend Recruiting School. I completed the 6 week course and obtained my badge. Once home to I was offered to apply for a Training Technician job which gave me promotion opportunity. With that said, I then attended school to acquire the skills necessary to change my career field. Graduated and worked in the Training position full time until I became a Staff Sergeant. I forgot to mention that during all of this I got married to my 1st husband in 1981, was blessed with 2 children ( a boy and a girl). That relationship laste...Expand for more
d 7 years...In 1988 I divorced my husband and became a single mom with a 4 year old and a 1 year old. I went to Washington on a Temporary duty assignment for a week and met a wonderful man. We remained friends and then got married in the Winter of 1990. I moved to Colorado withmmy 2 children , joined the Colorado ANG and was promoted to Technical Sergeant. Marc was an Officer with the T 43 Bobcat Unit at Buckley ANG in Aurora, Colorado. We stayed there until the winter of 1990; then moved to Florida. I joined the Florida Air National Guard a month after moving to Florida and worked full time Active Duty at The Air National Guard State Headquarters, promoted to Master Sergeant until I retired in 2008. Marc has put up with me now for going on 25 years..haha. My kids are grown and married both living in Oklahoma. I have 2 children, 1 step daughter, 2 step sons, 5 grand daughters and 3 grandsons... I live in Palm Coast, Florida which is on the Atlantic side of Florida, about 30 miles north of Daytona Beach and 30 miles south of St. Augustine, Florida...Would not change my journey in anyway...it has made me appreciate life and the many chapters we are able to start and finish.. Would love to hear your story...until then take care and enjoy the ride. Life is too short!! Regards, Linda .
