Linda's Story

I am still happily married to my child hood sweetheart and we have just celebrated our 53rd wedding anniversary. (Marvin Best) We are both retired. Marv worked for the Post Office as a Letter Carrier for 37 1/2 years and has been retired for 10 years, I didn't start to work until my youngest child was 16 and got his license so he could drive to school. He attended school out of the district we lived in so there was not bus service. I then started to work for State Farm Insurance in San Augustine, Tx. where I advanced to Office Manager. We then moved to Lufkin, Texas where I worked for Johnny Jackson State Farm Insurance. When Marv told me he planned to retire in 2000, I decided to get a part time job so I would have more time at home. I then went to work for a Truck Brokerage where I worked until Marv retired and then I retired too (just without any income :). We took our first Cruise and loved it. We had Easter Sunrise Services on Mt Rushmore, seen Custer Last Stand, Yellowridge, etc. While our trips are closer to home now we still enjoy taking trips mostly within the State of Texas. Our children, Cheri ( a teacher)lives in Weatherford, Texas and has two children of her own, Robyn 32 and Dan 28, father of a son and daughter. Mark lives in Manfield and is the owner of a Lawn Doctor business and is the father of a son, Bryan 28 and is the grandfather of a boy, Christian 10 years old, , Carson 7 years old. Cadence 4, and ,1 year old I know....that makes me a great grandma. Can you imagine that? Life has really been so good to me and I am so greatful for all I have been blessed with. Marv and I are active in Church and strive to serve the Lord in our everyday lives. We love people and enjoy interacting with them in various activities and functions. In July 2014 Marv had surgery for cancer and while he was actually still in the hospital I began having uncomfortable feelings and went out to the nursing station in front of his room and ask the nurse to send up a wheelchair from emergency and she took one look at me and said "no" I will carry you down. (the wheelchair they brought Marv up from surgery just happen to still be there) and she literally run me down the hall into the elevator. After that I don't remember ...Expand for more
to much until I was in the Cath. Lab and the Dr's told me I had two blockages that couldn't be repaired with a stent. They said I only had two choices, to have the surgery done then and here or life flight me to Houston. I choose to have it here and within 45 minutes I was on the operating table. Marv is still oblivious to this as he is still out of it from his surgery. After a week in the hospital I was released and thought I was doing good until I started imaging thing. Home health care just happen to be here and she gave us two choices. Either go by medical transport or by car. We went by car and that visit revealed I had a UTI. I never would have dreamed that would make you imagine things. After that the rest of 2014 went well. However, 2015 started out with me waking up during the night with something wrong. I thought it was my blood sugar so I started to the dining room where I keep my tester. Upon getting to the door and opening it I passed out and the door slammed against the wall waking Marv up. I was just like a wet noodle and I couldn't help myself up and Marv couldn't handle me so I went by medical transport to the emergency room. I had lost half of my blood content due to taking Xarelto for the past month. That landed me in ICU for four days and three bags of blood. Needless to say, I am not on blood thinners anymore (except a baby asprin and Yes, I know I risk a chance of a stroke due to A-fib. . As if that wasn't enough Marv had hernia surgery due to a problem that developed from his previous surgery. The plan is now to "NOT" have anymore medical problems for the remainder of our lives, but that is all in God's hand. You know that saying "If he can bring you too it he can bring you through it" and he certainly took us where he intended us to be. Celebrated our 50 th anniversary in July 2015 with a great fajuita supper and had 114 in attendance. I. Had major back surgery in April. 8 screws, 2 rods and a plate. Long recovery. Still on a cane, but at least I do not have the pain I had since 2006 and wouldn't you know I fell and broke one of the screws and had to have yet another back surgery only six months later and 10 screws that time.. We are up to six great grands now, 3 boys and 3 girls.

Today marks the most difficult and saddest day of mine and Marv's life.
I year ago we lost our precious daughter, Cheri. It has been the worst year you can imagine. I get up thinking of her and go to bed thinking of her.
Well, as if I was already experiencing a major case of the dumps, We just looked out and noticed our winnie dog was not moving. He just laid down and went to sleep and died peacefully. We had him for almost 15 years and h

Only 3 left to share with you. Now you have enough to printout and post in your garden this spring. That should take care of any varmits.
2 to go! Bet you have had enough by now. :)
