Linda's Story

After graduating from high school, moved to Orange County. Earned a BA and MS in Psychology, with a Minor in Business. Worked for an international CPA firm in Newport Beach, for 14 years, as an administrative assistant to the Tax Partner in Charge, and then as a university career counselor and high school counselor for 25 years. Retired in 2005. Have had a home on the beach in San Clemente for 30+ years (home base) and lived part-time, off and on, in Sedona, AZ, where we had a home also. Married for 34 years and divorced. Two daughters and fourteen grandchildren so far. Have had a blessed and adventurous life - have traveled world-wide since I was 19 years old (70 countries so far), in addition, made three transpacific sailboat crossings, as a crew member (Transpac Race), private boat from HI to California, and a crew member of an all women crew (10 of us) sailing a 65' sailboat from HI to Alaska), 10 day raft trip through Marble and Grand Canyons, yearly week-long backpacking trips in the High Sierras for 10 years, climbed Mt. Whitney, climbed to the top of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park, marathon runner, biked from Rosarito to Ensenada, narrowly missed being captured by Rwandan/ Hutu guerrillas in the Congo jungle (1998), while visiting the mountain gorillas (5 members of our group were captured and still missing). Ironically, the day we climbed up to see the gorillas in the Congo, was the same day they bombed Nairobi. It was a mess in Nairobi at the airport trying to catch our plane back to the states. Have done bungy jumping, sky diving, hang gliding, soar planed, scuba diving, and had my own dune buggy for many years. Traveled and camped across the following deserts - Gobi (Mongolia), Sahara (Egypt), Kalahari (Namibia and Botswana), Outback (Australia) and Mojave Desert (can't forget "home sweet home"). Did a 5-week bush camping expedition in East Africa ( 5 countries), another 5-week bush camping expedition in West Africa (4 countries), and 8- weeks motor home trip exploring North and South New Zealand and Central, North, South and East Australia. Also, visited Tibet and took the Friendship Highway back to Nepal in Jeeps crossing over peaks up to 16,000 feet high. While in Nepal, several of us charterd a small private plane to ...Expand for more
fly around the peak of Mt. Everest. Also spent 7 weeks touring Vietnam, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. Spent 9 days on Easter Island. Visited Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Morocco, Euador, Galapagos, Peru and a week with the Achuar Indians deep in the Amazon Forest. Spent 7 days crossing Sibera, by train, from Mongolia to Russia, to name a few. After retiring as a high school counselor in Orange County, I accepted a two year contract position (which turned into five years) as a counselor with the American School of Doha, Qatar, where the children of expats and diplomats attended. Faculty, parents and kids were well traveled and well educated. We had students from 75 different countries in the 2,000+ student body population. It was interesting living in and learning about the Middle East and expat lifestyle, "dune bashing", camel and Arabian horse races, and mixture of cultures. While living there, visited Bali, Lombok and the Gilli Islands, in Indonesia, spent the holidays of 2009 in Turkey for 15 days making a big loop around the country visiting historical and biblical sites. Visited Tunisia, South Korea and Morocco in 2010 and Greece, Greek Islands and Maldives in 2011. In 2012, spent a week in Paris over spring break - it had been 30 years since I last visited Paris, and then on to Burma/Myanmar (for 15 days). The Middle East is a great jump off point for visiting other countries, Moved back to San Clemente, CA in June, 2013. After vacating my tenant and doing necessary repairs, moved back home. Went to Costa Rica twice for a Yoga and Meditation Retreat Have spent a week, for four years, volunteering at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, UT (largest animal rescue facility in the world - 1,700 animals on 3,500+ acres). Kanab, is also a good jump off point for visiting several National Parks. We revisited the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Antelope Canyons, and three days exploring in Monument Valley by car and horse back....and the adventure continues..... Love San Clemente (the "Spanish Village by the Sea"), small community atmosphere and beach life. Someday I hope to slow down long enough to write my memoirs. Gosh, so much to see yet and so little time - I feel like I have just begun!! Don't forget to check out my photos!
