Linda's Story
After high school, I attended a trade school and worked part time at Sear's repair center fixing small electric appliances. I received an associate's degree in electronics in 1976. I was fortunate enough to get hired by IBM right after I received my associate's degree and am still working there today. I got married in 1977 to my husband, Larry, whom I met in trade school. We did quite a bit of traveling in those days. Everyone should travel outside of the United States at least once in their lifetime. It really makes a person appreciate how lucky we are and how much we have in the United States compared to other places. In 1983, I got a job promotion that took us to New York to live. That was quite an experience, one that I will never forget. Another thing everyone should do just once in their life is to visit New York City. There is nothing else quite like it. there is always something to do, no matter what hour it is. We lived in New York for 4 years and then my job took us to Raleigh, North Carolina in 1987 where we have lived ever since. We love North Carolina. In a matter of hours, we can go to the Smoky Mountains to the west or go to the beaches to the east. In 1988, we were blessed with our son, Joshua, and our lives have not been the same since. All you parents know what I mean, your life changes forever, but in the best way possible. Our son is grown now and is turning into a wonderful man. We are so proud of him. These days, I am busy with my job, housework, running errands, working in my magnificent flower garden, tending to my vegetable plants, and caring for and walking my Yorkshire Terrier, Sadie. I'm enjoying life and looking forward to the day when I can retire from my job and spend more time traveling and working in my gardens.
