Linda's Story

Holiday Greetings from the Wooleyhands It¿s been a few years since I¿ve found the time to write my annual holiday letter, I hope this gets to you before the holidays are over!!. Although we think of everyone often, it seems that as the girls get older I get busier and time moves faster. We hope the holiday season finds you filled with the magic of believing and close to the ones you love.! Charlie is as busy as ever, working at Kraft, it will be 25 years in May, and doing masonry, bowling, coaching softball, golfing and with his new hat as Union representative for 3rd shift. He finally got his boat going again this summer and we were able to spend a few weekends out on the Nanticoke River. The girls love tubing and kneeboarding!! He tries to get away whenever possible to see Amber bowl, they all had a great time in Myrtle Beach at a tournament last year. His golf game doesn¿t seem to be improving but he does get out often to work on it at home with his buddies from work and in Buffalo with my dad. Linda remains at the Little School as kindergarten teacher, curriculum coordinator and licensing specialist, although she finally gave up teaching college after Ciara was diagnosed last year with Type 1 Diabetes making it more difficult to be away at night. There have been some exciting changes recently as the Little School gets moved into it¿s fancy new building (stop by and see us at The Little School at Kids Cottage on Salisbury Road) and kindergarten has gone to an all day format combining the two classrooms for a team teaching approach. It makes for a very busy day! I continue to scrapbook whenever I can and enjoy being team mom during softball season. Amanda, 21, will graduate in April with a dual Bachelor¿s degree in Accounting and Finance. After a year at Goldy-Beacom she decided she wanted to be closer to home and has finished up here at Wilmington College in Dover. She is working for the Town of Smyrna. She got engaged over the summer to her boyfriend Lee and they have bought a two bedroom trailer not far from us. Our biggest news of the year is that she is expecting and sometime in May we will become Grandparents!! I¿m very excited although Charlie maintains that he is much too young for the job. The other girls can¿t wait to be Aunts, especially Skyler!! And, who knows, maybe we will finally have a little boy! Erica, 20, is attending Delaware Tech, working on a degree in education in the department Linda used to teach in. She has volunteered for years at her old elementary school and thinks she¿d like working with children. We are so proud of her and can¿t wait to help with her education classes. s also playing softball for the college and working as a receptionist for a hair salon in Dover. Amber, 17, will graduate from High School in May. She has no definite plans for the future yet but has been actively looking at colleges in North Carolina, Delaware and Maryland. She was invited to join a state all-star bowling team and travels all over for tournaments. She¿s hoping it will lead to a scholarship. Her father and sisters have traveled to a couple of her tournaments to see her bowl. Skyler, 10, has been exploring her musical talents with violin lessons last year and this year the flute. She is in fourth grade at Campus Community School, a charter school associated with Wesley College in Dover, that focuses on learning through projects rather than textbooks, and just as social as her father, between them they must know all of Dover! She was drafted up to majors in softball and now plays under the same coach who coached Amanda and Erica all through little league. She made it to 9 & 10 year old all-stars this year with daddy as her all-star coach. In the off season, she enjoys Art Club at school, volunteering at the SPCA and helping out at the little school. Ciara,7, is doing great at the ¿big school¿ with Skyler. She loves first grade and has made many new friends and is, as we speak, mastering reading. She is so proud of herself! She has proved to be very independent at managing her Diabetes and is learning to master the insulin pump she got the middle of December. She has been an inspiration of courage and resiliency to us!! She has joined the minor league in softball with many of Skyler¿s teammates from last year and Daddy as her coach. She has also started volunteering at the SPCA, ¿socializing¿ the dogs and cats so they will do well in a home with children. She remains as active as ever, biking, rollerblading and her new love kneeboarding -- her father told her she was too little, so she proved him wrong!! Chelsea (or as her grandpa calls her ¿The Little General¿), 4, is a force to be reckoned with! She and her best friend Lizzie are running the little school and we love to watch the teachers try to tame them! Like Ciara, she is fearless and active and like Skyler she thinks fast. Believe me it¿s a dangerous combination!! She loves babies, rarely do we go anywhere without a doll baby in tow! She will finally start tee-ball in the Spring -- she¿s been waiting ¿forever¿! She stays busy ¿mothering¿ her two guinea pigs. Everyday she brings them into the living room and reads them stories and sings them songs. There¿s never a dull moment with her around!! Wishing you the best in 2009!!
