Hopefully, 2013 will be different. With Gary's work-related accident on June 14th, 2012,
half of 2012 was concentrated on his survival and recovery. He was crushed between
a boat and an offshore platform while he was being transported from the boat to the
platform by swingrope. He sustained life-threatening internal injuries with complications from infection
caused by septic poisoning. He is still recovering with two more surgeries to be performed,
hopefully within the next few weeks. The last six months are just a blur, with rehab and doctor
visits back to back. Progressing from wheelchair to walker to using a cane was part of the
scenario. For me, living in a hotel room for 2-1/2 months, then an extended stay for 1 month
to moving into a small cottage for another 2-1/2 months was quite an experience to say the
least. We stayed in the Extended Stay for 30 days when he was released from inpatient rehab.
The most difficult thing at this point was getting the wheelchair in and out of the car. I'm thankful
to God for getting us through all of this with grace and inner peace in spite of the difficulties.
He has sustained us and given us the strength to bear it all. In spite of the circumstances, we
have been greatly blessed. Happy New Year to you all!

We have a trip planned for 5/11/2013 to return home for 2 weeks to attend the wedding of our youngest son, Gary. Jr. Then it's off to New Jersey for a weekend to visit Gary's dad. Then back to California. We have a Dr.'s appointment on June 17th to look at issues with scar tissue in the urethra. Surgery was performed on 4/02/13 to reverse the colostomy, which was a success. He is now walking without the cane so progress has been made.

Back in our California home after surgery in Los Angeles on 7/30/2013 to remove scar tissue in urethra. All went well and only time will tell if any more surgeries will be necessary. Follow-up with Dr. on 8/27/2013. All depends on bladder recovery. Bladder has taken a beating over the last 14-1/2 months, with a super-pubic tube through the belly.

I have been home in Louisiana since August 8th. Gary followed on August 13. He wasn't quite up to travelling when I left California. My mother's health has been failing for a couple of months and she suffered a heart attack while Gary was in the hospital in July. I rushed home as soon as I could to spend some time with her. She is now in a nursing home and is holding on. We will be flying back to California on the 26th for Gary's Dr. appointment on the 27th and then we come back to Louisiana for a month to get chiropractic treatment for a twisted spine. We should be back home by Labor Day weekend for our annual family get-together. This will be the first time my mom will miss the gathering. It won't be the same without her. She's a lot of fun and everyone looks forward to seeing her. After a month here, it's back to California to see if Gary can be released to go back to work. Hopefully, we can get back to a more normal life. God has been good to us through it all.

Gary's Dr. appointment went well. A cystoscope was done on the 27th after the catheter was removed. Due to scabbing and debris in the urethra, the Dr. gave him a choice to put the catheter back in or come back the next day for another cystocope in order to let some of the debris clear up overnight. Of course, we opted for the return visit rather than ha...Expand for more
ve the catheter put back in. The Dr. was able to see that the area was healed and gave us the okay to travel home to Louisiana. We arrived home late Friday afternoon just in time for Labor Day festivities. We are now home for the month of September. We are looking forward to some quality time at home since he can have a more normal life now without a catheter after 15 months. We are thankful for all of the prayers from our friends and family over the last year.

We are back in our home in California. Gary is busy getting Dr. releases to go back to work. He was able to ride his motorcycle for the first time since the accident this past Saturday.. He was very happy since one of his greatest fears was that he wouldn't be able to ever ride again. We have a new grandson, born on Sept. 17th, weighing in at 9 lbs. 12 oz. At 10 days old he looked to be 6 weeks old. We were able to visit with our son and daughter-in-law and grand daughter Anna and meet Andrew on 9/27/2013. They live in Fort Worth, TX where we stopped for the weekend on the way back to CA for Dr.'s appointment. Weather here is beginning to cool down some. It was pretty hot here for the summer. I lost most of my potted plants since we were gone most of the summer. But it was good to be home more most of June, all of July, 25 days in August and 26 days in September. We came back to CA in between to do surgery and Dr's appointments. Gary did chiropractic treatments during our time at home to straighten out his spine which was badly twisted in the accident.. He is still walking with a slight limp which seems to be improving with the treatments. He will be looking for a chiropractor here so he can continue treatment. I will be heading home in 4-6 weeks for the holidays and then will return here. Thanks to all of our family and friends for the many prayers offered up in our behalf.

Today, exactly 16 months after his accident, Gary has returned to work. Not to full capacity, but at least it's a start. He is very happy and nervous, too. He will be working in the LA office temporarily, estimating jobs. We are not sure what comes next, He is still regaining strength and putting on some much needed weight, having lost almost 100 lbs. He looks more like himself again. We are staying in an Extended Stay hotel for a couple of weeks until his employer decides what's next. He wants to go back to his previous job location, but we are not sure at this point if that will happen. Time will tell. God has been good to us through this whole ordeal. We have much to be thankful for, including all the friends and family that were praying for us. THANK YOU to all of you guys. Life is now beginning to seem more normal.

Gary has been back to work now for several days. I was planning to return home in preparation for the upcoming holidays, but have made a sudden change in plans. I've been offered a job to work at the same job site that Gary is going to next week. We have four days of site training to go through starting next Monday and then we will be moving our trailer to that area to start work. A quick turn of events! Makes life more interesting, though. I was looking forward to going home for a few weeks, but at least we were able to spend much of the summer there. We will probably return home for Thanksgiving and then Christmas, but it will be a shorter visit than I had originally planned. Looking forward to spending some time with family when we go back
