Linda's Story

Let's see. Long, boring story short: The day after I graduated PVHS, I started working as a secretary for an inventor in Culver City. A few months later, got my first apartment in Venice Beach. I attended Harbor JC as well. The company eventually closed down, and I started working for TRW as an executive secretary for the Director of Materiel. (Thank you, Mrs. Martin -- remember Mrs. Martin? She and Mr. Kenney are the teachers I remember the most!) Anyway, met my husband there (yep, 40+ years ago and still married). Quit TRW to join the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department as a Deputy. (They found out I could type, so I usually ended up somewhere using that skill as part of my Deputy duties!) When I had our first child, I quit the Sheriff's Department (after being shot at while working the East LA riots), stayed home, and did court transcribing on the side from home until kids were in school. (I have two kids, a son and a daughter, and four grandkids.) Then I went to work for an attorney as a legal secretary, graduated from business college, started at CalState LA, studying law, and eventually became a certified paralegal. After 30 years in that business, I retired. My hubby and I then finally "flew...Expand for more
the coop," moved to a remote area of the West Central Mountains of Idaho (incredibly beautiful). We have 4 Morgan horses, 3 Saint Bernards, a cat and chickens. We have about 100 acres, with a good-sized river running through it, and enjoy watching the deer, elk, bears, wolves, mountain lions, beaver, porcupines, raccoons, bald and golden eagles, etc., etc. Life is truly grand! Do I miss the city, the stores, the beach, the freeways -- NOT!!!! My hubby, after I drug him screaming and clawing into retirement, finally relented to pressure from his "fans" and went back to work after only six months of retirement., He started doing consulting engineering, contracting out to various companies. He travels all over the world, but I'm just too happy in the wilds of the back country, riding my horses to my heart's content, to want to sit for 18 hours on a plane to go visit some cement somewhere! I'm an old fuddy-duddy I guess, but a happy one! My dad still lives in PV, so I do get to see the ocean and the old home a couple of times a year. Our son and his family live in SoCA also, and our daughter and family live in Colorado, so I do get out into the world once in a while to see them. That's pretty much it!
