Linda's Story
Life
I married Robert Newberry in 1968. He left for Viet Nam 15 days after the "I Do's", returnned to U of I Law School and then announced he was joining the Army's Judge Advocate General Corps. (JAGC).. and we were headed for Germany ...and he was due in court 15 minutes after arrival. (This is only a slight exageration.) We moved every few years --for 25 years-- living in Washington DC, Virginia & New Jersey and in Europe where we enjoyed 11 1/2 years posted in Germany! We have 4 children: Amanda, Margaret ("Molly"), Monika*, Patrick (*this one was NOT born in Germany; she has the German name!) and as of 10/6/2015 there are 8 grandchildren (Frederick, Gretchen, Adelaide, Gabriel, Grace, Elijah, Noah, and Charlotte). As an Army Wife (toughest job in the Army), as a 'dependent wife'/able to move 4 children, a dog, a rabbit and all the worldly possessions across continents... unassisted, I twice served as American President of the German-American Women's Club (GAWC) in both Mannheim and in Stuttgart, and over the course of 25 years as 4 years Bazaar Chairman (Ways and Means), Recording Secretary, Parliamentarian and Newsletter Editor in both GAWC and Officers and Civilians' Wives' Clubs. (These are Social/Welfare 'Dolly-DoGood' endeavors raising money for community needs.) Military retirement (#1) brought us to the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan where Bob worked for the US ...Expand for more
Department of Justice as a Federal Immigration Judge. I was employed by the local Community Schools as an English as a Second Language (ESL) para-professional. I translated English to english to pantomime; my primary job was to work with zero-English children (K-12) while the teachers were able to teach to low level English speakers. I also administered tests to measure English proficiency -- K-12. I became an English tutor for expatriated Japanese engineers, their wives and children, working at Yazaki North America, part of the Automotive Industry. Additionally I worked as a Relocator, helping newly-arrived Japanese find their "way" (getting needed US documents, insurance, housing, studying for their driver's license test, and helping them assimilate into American 'life'). In April of 2013 I decided to 'retire' as my husband retired in May 2014. Since November 2013 I've assumed the role of "Nanny Granny" and care for grandson, Noah and now sister Charlotte while his momma teaches school and dad is at work. Oh, yes, and I live with a clowder of cats... the eccentric woman with now reduced to 3 elderly felines! (...a legacy of children dragging in foundlings and THEN producing children/husbands who are "allergic to cats"!) and a foundling dog. The rest of "MyLife" is posted on Facebook (Linda Bebee Newberry) Come visit.... and tell me you were there! Leave a message.
