Linda's Story

School My biggest crush would have to be Torren Lagorio - Since the 3rd grade... He was more like a brother though! Siqnora Dannenberg was most inspirational to me... She had so much energy so full of life - I learned more from her than just Italian - I learned how to be in love with life and anything that I was involved in and if I didn't then it was time to get out! Funniest/craziest memory had to be the Football Jamborie at Pacific Field Senior Year, When Senior Class President Cindy Zecher and I were caught by security "falling down drunk" - She and I had never been in trouble before and when she and I were given afterschool detention with all the other trouble makers - Everyone in detention thought she and I must be sitting in on the class - kind of like teachers assistants. No one could believe that we were in trouble to. Saddest day was when I found out that a good friend of mine, Jeanne DeMonte, had died at the Cliff House in San Fransico after falling down a jagged rock cliff on to the rocks below. The best day was the day I graduated - I never really fit in at school... had lots of friends but, never felt like I belonged... So, I was really looking forward to getting the heck out of school and most importantly off the Island and out of Alameda - into the real world. After High School, I enrolled in Alameda College - Duh!! That was a very dumb move... Continuation of Alameda High; spent ...Expand for more
2 quarters there before transferring to Chabot - Still not far enough away so, I transferred to Kauai Community College, on the Island of Kauai. For a year and a half, I worked as a Medical Assistant/Secretary while I completed my Associates Degree in Business and my Certification for Medical Assistant. The Island of Kauai was so beautiful but, like Dorothy and The Wizard of Oz - "There's no place like home" and I moved back to Alameda... Where I met my husband, Herb Crawford. That I'm sure may seem real strange to alot of you; considering we went to school together and his best friend Danny Kahuanui was dating my neighbor and like a sister to me, Denise Bonadona... and our paths had never crossed until the night before Denise's wedding in Dec of '82. Meeting Herb was like a dream come true - A "Jock" from school interested in me... Mondo Bazzaro... We were married 9 months later. Sept'83 had our first of 4 kids in July of '85; Crystal, Danny in Dec'86, Jeremy in May of '89. In Sept. of '89 Herb was injured while working for Oakland Scavanger/Waste Management; the injury left him wheelchair bound and in the Workers Comp system for 11 years. Our fourth child was considered a miracle, she was conceived the night before the surgery that would change our entire future; I didn't know I was pregnant for 7 1/2 months - gave me enough time to set up and nursery and then we brought Hannah home in Nov. '96.
