Linda's Story
After graduating from KU Class of '63, l came to Portland to attend nursing school at Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing. I graduated in 1967 and promptly returned to K. Falls. I worked for ten months at the local hospital. After ten months, I decided to return to Portland to work at Bess Kaiser hospital. In 1975 I transferred to Kaiser Sunnyside Med Center after hearing rumors that Bess Kaiser would be closing. I have always worked in the operating room as a staff nurse, ENT charge nurse and then for the last six years, I decided to take on the role of nurse educator. This job was perhaps the most demanding and stressful job of my entire 40 years at Kaiser. The job included ongoing education and competency verifications for 80 employees. ams for all newly hired nurses and technicians as well as developing internship training programs for nurses new to the operating room. In April, 2008, I made a huge decision to retire at the age of 63. I am now enjoying the retired life or at least getting used to the idea. The positives to retirement so far, is that I have time now to do all of the other activities that I had to put on the "back burner" due to lack of time to do them. I am still fairly "green" on this retirment thing but I am now starting to line up probably more activities than I will be able to handle.
I am still married (36 years this Auguest) to Bill and have one son, John. I still live in the Portland area (Gresham).
I would love to hear from old friends and classmates from the days of K. Falls, Roosevelt, Fremont and K.U. days.
