Linda's Story
I graduated in 1959 from Big Bear High School. After summer was over, I went to Dental Assisting School with Roberta Hyta, Pat Garlow, Bonnie Shaffer. When I graduated, I moved in with Pat in Inglewood. We both could not find a job, so we worked in a bank as a teller for 6 months. I found a job with a dentist in Hawthorne, I worked for him for two years. I met my husband in late 1961, and we were married in 1963. We have one son. No grandchildren and no hopes of any. John lives here in Valencia, not far from my house. He is a manager in a men's clothing store. My husband and I were married for 44 years. He passed away in 2011. I miss him everyday. Before I got pregnant, I went to Pasadena Collage and got my Dental Hygienist license I worked at this for 4 years. My husband and I were in a terrible motorcycle accident on our way to Alaska. back injuries. It took me 5 years to recover from this. My husband was not hurt. We were hit from behind by a motorist that had fallen asleep at the wheel.. I retired from dentistry. My husband was in the ordinance business during the cold war. They made detonators for weapon systems. Later on down the road,, we started a helicopter business. We named it Watson Helicopters. we taught students to fly and we were also a repair station. For years we were the leading flight school on the West Coast. The year that 9/11 happened, the flight schools were all shut down. We sold out and retired. In 2000, I purchased our Fox Ranch property back and fixed the house and garage back to living condition. I have one acre. with the original house and original garage. I love it up there, and go up every summer. The snow turns me off. Too cold. I have never remarried and am very happy in my life.
