Linda's Story
I think it takes 50 years to put your early experiences into perspective. I look back on my high school years, growing up in Detroit and going to a big, overcrowded, highly competitive high school such as Mumford in 1959.
On a regular basis I dreamed about what it would be like to live in New York--which I considered a real city-- and I felt like a very small cog amongst the 800 or so students that made up our graduating class.

iting career--in my early thirties when my youngest child started school--I realized I was fearless about putting myself and my ideas "out there." There weren't any harsher critics than my high school peers!
I have been living in Ann Arbor for the past 38 years with my husband Ronald Benson, a psychoanalyst. I have established a freelance writing career spanning 30 years, raised three kids there and enjoy my four grandchildren when they come to visit from their various locales. A few of my former classmates have remained friends and we keep in touch. Occasionally, I run into others, but the cultures are very different, even though the Detroit suburbs are only 40 miles away.
In sum, I am having a wonderful run and I look forward to seeing a few of the 800 or so of my classmates, some of whom may remember that I was a features editor at the Mumford Mercury. I guess you could say that a lot of who I am started then and there.
